Red Arrows are too British
« on: October 22, 2007, 04:25:37 PM »

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed "too British".

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically British". Red Arrows pilots were said to be "outraged", as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being "too British" is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain ..

The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.

The Arrows performed a short fly-past in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their fly-past at the Games was to have been truly spectacular.

It is to be hoped that common sense prevails

This has got to be the most absurd thing I've heard in a long time. It's just more proof that they need to either completely reform the IOC, or do away with the Olympics all together. Whoever this "Department of Culture, Media and Sport" are, they should all be sednt packing.

As some of you know, I'm part of a group that restore old military aircraft. Here's a pix of one of our current projects that you Red Arrows fans might recognise. It's a Folland Gnat. The plane in the background is our WW 2 vintage A-26.

Hi GPW, known about this for some time now, but after 10 years of a socialist, politically correct, looney left government that put the interests of ethnic minorities before the majority, watta ya expect lol

it might offend muslims and red ken's controling the show. Dont forget, the nasty RAF bombs innocent women, children and cute puppies, kittens etc in iraq. But we're not as bad as the USAF, they bomb rabbits as well

no doubt, one of these ppl that might get offended by seeing the red arrows are now making plans to blow us all up at the olympics

fcuked up country we live in

I can't imagine that China will be too worried to let their air force fly over Beijing.

This is a really stupid decision and the logic is stunning.  The country is going to have an air force display team.  They are going to perform in this country and overseas.  They will appear at major events all round the world.  But the government who spends our tax on them thinks it sends out the wrong message.  So why are we paying to send out the wrong message.

If it sends out the wrong message at the Olympics it must do it everywhere else.

Maybe we can have formation furry rabbits instead.
