Confirmation that the FIA knew Aus Ferrari was illegal
« on: October 25, 2007, 10:09:03 AM »

Quote
There are also questions about the way that the FIA handled the question of the Ferrari floor at the Australian Grand Prix. The device was deemed to be illegal a few days after the Australian GP. This clarification was not deemed to be retroactive despite the fact that McLaren alerted the FIA's Charlie Whiting to the problem on March 16 - two days before the Melbourne race - using the protocol that is employed of seeking an opinion from the FIA. This is considered to be a better way to solve problems than by using public protests. Whiting did not rule on the matter until after the event.

The above quote confirms that the FIA knew the Ferrari was illegal before the race in Australia but the FIA allowed an illegal car to race and chose not to disqualify an illegal car after it won.

I guess this is Max protecting Ferrari aginst any bias.

something strange going on in the world of f1. If this happened at the British GP, i'd be writting a letter to the police now asking them to investigate corporate corruption. They would be duty bound to look into it.

McLAREN were shafted then and subsequently during 2007

and it is not over yet

just wait for the decision on the appeal

i am picking it will be thrown out on fairness etc etc bloody etc grounds

nobody and that means nobody is safe or inviolate if they challenge FERRARI

frankly i am sick and tired of the corruption and chicanery that from time to time has tainted the otherwise glorious heritage of GP and F1 racing

FERRARI seems to be one of the implicated parties on many occasions

mind you at BRAZIL their cars looked and behaved they were glued to the track

both KR and FM drove with extraordinary finesse

they were in a class well above the also rans

Now Loco Luca is criticizing Bernie and the FIA - Bernie for suggesting that LH was the deserved champ (I don't know why Bernie bothers poking his snout in that sort of thing anyway), and the FIA for letting McLaren race a Ferrari influenced car all season and almost take away Ferrari's god-given (Max likes to think of himself as that) WDC trophy.  Of course no mention of the FIA letting an illegal Ferrari race and win and keep the points in Australia.

Luca and Fernando will get along SOOOOO well when he moves to Ferrari in '09

luca is conveniently forgetting that McLAREN's 2007 race car was drawn and dusted well before the spy scandal

but as they say never let the truth stand in the way of a good story.....................

[your appellation of 'loco' is a bewdy one ScottyD - great stuff!
May I suggest 'loopy' as well?]

Just a little bit of head scratching from me, on this one:

If Ferrari (and their drivers) had been disqualified from the Australian GP - and not withstanding the current appeal into the stewards decision at Brazil - would Alonso be Champion? or have I got my figures messed up.

I'd have Alonso and Hamilton both on 111 points with Alonso having taken one more win.

You are correct that Alonso would have been champion by dint of the number of victories. They would have only had 110 points each, but that's just a minor issue.

Promoted to 1st and 2nd from 2nd and 3rd - 2 extra points each.

Interesting twist.  I wonder how Fernando would feel about that being sorted out in a court or boardroom.
