MARK WEBBER lands a Silver Arrow ride!

Dennis vetoes Alonso switch to big rivals
Thu 01 Nov, 08:19 AM

Ron Dennis will only agree to release Fernando Alonso from his 2008 contract if the Spaniard switches to a privateer rival next year, according to reports.

Following the first meeting on Wednesday between McLaren figures and representatives for Alonso, the Spanish newspaper Diario As has put Red Bull and Williams at the top of the list to receive the 26-year-old former double world champion next year.

More talks with McLaren are expected in the coming days, but the As report would explain why speculation of moves to carmaker backed outfits including Renault, Ferrari, Toyota and Honda has recently gone cold.

Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad, who was in England this week, played down links with other teams whilst talking to the British newspaper The Guardian on Wednesday.

"If that's what people are saying then they know more than me," he said.

The whispers nonetheless continued unabated, with Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport spouting the latest theory that a move to Red Bull for Alonso might also entice Ross Brawn to abandon his planned return to Ferrari in favour of the energy drink-owned ranks
.
JUST KIDDING :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

It would not be totally impossible though, when you think about it.
Fred could easily convince the twits managing RBR to give him preferencial status.
He could take his .6 seconds with him.

It is a bit of catchy phrase.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing it either.

Well, not meaning to get your hopes too high, but financially, it would make a lot of sense to RBR.  Having Alonso would do wonders for marketing Red Bull products in Spain.  Ron wouldn't mind having Webber, who is probably a better driver than we've seen - just needs a car - but I doubt he would challenge Hamilton seriously in his first season with McLaren.

Win, win the way I see it.

It isn't going to happen.  No chance.  McLaren are going to design next years car around Lewis (& ALonso until it was obvious he was leaving) so Webber won't ever fit comfortably in it.  Kovalainen would.  So would Rosberg.

You make a very good point there.  Webber is a tough guy to get into a car due to his height.  McLaren like their cars to be very tight, compact, and with little unnecessary space.

That's true, but they're so used to accommodating tall people anyway that I can't see them not hiring Mark on the basis of height alone.
