Windscreen repair
« on: November 03, 2007, 03:28:47 PM »
Just been out cleaning my car and noticed a star crack in the windscreen that had been hidden behind my rear view mirror, I'm pretty sure it's repairable.

Anybody here in the UK recommend a company that does a good job please? Another slight problem is that my insurance doesn't cover windscreen repair any more, I have a choice of windsreen repair or trackday insurance in with my policy, I always go for the latter.

So looks like I'm going to have to pay, any idea of the price? I'm sure last time I had it done the going rate was about £60 but had it done through the insurance that time!

Thanks

Hi Neil,

I've only ever had one chip repaired in my windscreen and this was by Autoglass (surprise surprise), it took about 30 minutes and the repair was virtually undetectable. Are you sure your insurance company won't pay for a repair?? thats very unusual.

Halfords also have a repair kit if you fancy having a go yourself, its £29.99 but repairs about 5-6 chips in total. Halfords Windscreen Repair Kit

Hope this helps.

No they make it pretty clear that you either have trackday cover OR windscreen cover wiz, thanks for the help!

I used a similar product to fix a bull's eye chip in my daughter's windshield a few years ago. It worked very well. Lasted the life of the car. Sadly, my then son-in-law tended to go through cars rather quickly.
