Champ Car Schedule

(1/1)

cosworth151:
Champ Car president Steven Johnson has created a 14-race schedule for 2008 that, if nothing else, appears solid.

Most notable for F1 fan is the departure of Las Vegas after only one year. The hugely promoted street race was a spectacular failure, drawing even fewer fans then the Portland, Oregon race. This should put an end to any speculation about a Vegas F1 race.

A new European race will be added at Jerez, Spain.

ESPN will once again carry the TV coverage.

July 6: Toronto

July 20: Edmonton, Alberta

July 27: Portland, Oregon

Now I just gotta convince the boss to send me to the Gold Coast again, but this time with full corporate pass for the entire weekend, plus pit pass and all the trimmings.......

Well I can dream....

Steven Roy:
Seems odd to be making two separate trips to Europe.  In the 5 or more years before the split CART was hugely popular in Europe and could have made a load of money here.  I can't imagine the current Champ Car pulling huge audiences.

Strange choice of circuits.  Assen is primarily a bike circuit and only started running car races a couple of years ago(I think).  Jerez presumably has given up hope of ever getting its GP back and is prepared to gamble on Champ Car.  Zolder never had a particulalry good reputation.  Over the top policing with angry dogs being the usual complaint.

I would have thought they would get a better return from Brands(or Donington), Zandvoort (especially with Doornbos racing) and one of the German circuits.
