I had never heard of Dimmer but I knew John Delane bought up a load of Tyrrell cars and equipment.

In 2006 the Knockhill circuit in Scotland put on a historic festival with JYS as guest of honour and the highlight of the day unsurprisingly was when he took Tyrrell 001 out for a few laps.  John Delane was interviewed and said that when Jackie Stewart phones you and asks you to ship a car to Scotland for him to drive you do it,  then you get on a plane to come and watch him drive.  They also had a Tyrrell transporter which I think belongs to Delane.

These people brought their cars to the USGP a couple of years. The spectator access to their cars was superb, and it was wonderful to see and hear the cars at speed on the circuit.

If (when) the USGP returns to Indy, I hope they will come back.

The access we had was superb.  You could lean over and get your head in the cockpit or any other part of the car you liked.  I didn't hear anyone associated with it tell anyone not to touch any part of it.  Fabulous attitude.

It was a joy to watch JYS in the paddock.  He (and his brother) signed autographs all day.  There were a couple of set sessions at the Tyrrell transporter but he posed for photos, signed autographs and answered questions all day without a single complaint.  Given that this is a man in his sixties with nothing to gain by doing it I thought he put the current drivers to shame.

He also had a stroll around the paddock looking at a lot of the old cars and jumping in a few just to try them out.  It is amazing that someone who has seen it, done it an wrote several books on it can behave like an excited schoolboy about seein some car he hasn't seen for a few decades.
