Yugo for sale
« on: February 07, 2008, 04:52:11 PM »
Zastava Automobili, the Eastern European auto company that assembles the Fiat Punto but is best known in the U.S. as the company behind the wonderful Yugo sports hatchback, is up for sale. The Serbian government announced on Thursday that potential buyers have until the end of March to submit bids.

Auto companies with at least $725 million in revenue for 2006 are eligible to make offers, according to the Reuters news agency. Despite the Punto and a deal with General Motors to start building the Opel Astra in 2008, Zastava has only been working at one-quarter of its 60,000-unit capacity. It is scheduled to stop building its own-brand Yugo cars in 2010.

The automaker employs 4,000 workers and is the only Serbian auto company.

Cos - Proud Yugo owner! :D

NEVER, I SAY! NEVER!

In fact, I'm facing legal action over it.

The local Republicrook city administration here in Lancaster had a hearing about handing huge amounts of our tax money to Wal-Mart  to get them to build a store here. I was one of the leaders of the opposition. Now the is harassing all of the opposition leaders. Last summer, if I was out of town for more than a week, I'd get threatening letters from the city about my lawn. In the fall, they threatened to take me to court unless I cut down a berry bush.

They have already driven a good friend of mine, the chaplin at both the AMVETS and the V.F.W., out of his home and into a nervous collapse.

Now, they have declared the Yugo to be a "public nuisance" and an "eyesore." This time I'm fighting back. I've got a meeting next week with an honest (i.e. Democratic) councilman and the City Commissar of Compulsory Conformity, I mean, Code Enforcement Officer.
