From AutoWeek's Daily Drive e-newsletter:
One of the highly anticipated debuts at next week's Geneva motor show is the rebirth of the Volkswagen Scirocco. But Internet users are getting an early look at the new car as photos were published on Thursday.
The Scirocco--back after a 16-year break--keeps much of the styling from the Iroc concept car show at the Paris motor show in 2006, but the front end has been toned down some.
The four-seater rides on the Golf platform (known as the Rabbit in the United States.) VW has said it doesn't plan to sell the Scirocco in the U.S. market.
The Scirocco goes on sale in Europe in June, but is expected to be more of an image vehicle rather than a volume seller. VW plans to build 28,000 Sciroccos a year at its plant in Setubal, Portugal. Production could rise to 50,000 a years.
A VW insider said Scirocco prices will start at about 21,500 euros in Germany, or about $32,600 at current exchange rates.
