Autism Awareness Day
« on: April 02, 2008, 07:48:57 PM »
Today is Autism Awareness Day and the idea of this day is that it makes people aware of what Autism is and how it affects people in their everyday life.

Many children and even adults are diagnosed with Autism every day across the world and without the understanding from others, things like social skills and even the educational side can be affected.

There are so many different types of Autism and sometimes it is hard to diagnose. Some children with mild autism grow up and are able to live on their own, but others with more serious problems will always need some kind of help that’s where this day becomes important.

I hadn't heard of Autism Awareness Day until a couple of days ago, and I thought I was well clued-up on this sort of stuff. The coverage in the UK wasn't very good, though - there was just a short spot on GMTV that didn't explain much of anything :(
