US surfers spend most time online
« on: May 11, 2008, 06:54:59 PM »
The US leads the way for time spent online, with the average surfer spending almost an hour a day on the web. (is that all?)

Americans spend nearly twice the amount of time surfing the internet compared to Australians, according to data from Nielsen Online.

Of the top seven countries in the league table, which covers the month of March 2008, five are European with the US first and Australia seventh.

On average, Americans spend more than 27 hours a month surfing the net, far longer than closest rival France, with 19 hours. Spain comes in third with the average Spaniard spending just under 18 hours online.

UK surfers average more than 17-and-a-half hours a month between home and work. Germany and Italy make up the top seven with 17 hours and 15 hours respectively.

The US was recently overtaken by China for top spot in a list charting the number of internet users.

By the end of February there were more than 221 million Chinese online, compared to the 137 million surfing at the start of 2007 – an increase of 61%.

How do people cope with such limited time online?

I was wondering the same thing. The internet has been engaged from 9am until 12:10pm solid, then from 2:45pm until about 4pm, then 7pm until about 10 minutes' time. That's 11 hours and 20 minutes, and my house contains a total of three people!

No dare, some people do manage to spend more than 8 hours a day in places other then the internet. I read books as well. Not to mention I have to do Spanish revision and I prefer eating away from the computer. Plus I played Sims 2 for an hour (which doesn't use an internet connection) and a friend came to visit for a while.

I'm shocked, shocked, Ali. You mean that there are things other than GP Wizard in the world?

I have heard the real world is scary and I am not prepared to risk trying it just in case.

Just think Takuma Sato is out there driving in the real world.

I have tried to keep up your pace Dare but the boss insists I spend an hour or two on work, then the wife insists we have shopping trips, add the time spent eating, showering, dressing etc etc; Oh plus a couple of hours sleep and I let the side down at only 14.37 hours average. I shall just have to try harder.
