You spin me round, right round

What is going on with Luca deMontezemolo?  Earlier today I read that he had called for Max to resign.  I spent several hours trying to figure out his motives for that after Max's years of loyal service to the Scuderia.  Then I read that he thinks Max should stay.  I assumed that this meant his earlier comment had been misreported but he apparently gave it in an interview to Bloomberg TV.

Bernie calling for Max was a suprise but Max had come between Bernie and his bank balance but what would Ferrari have to gain by Max going and why would Luca change his mind in the space of a few hours.  Maybe Max was prepared to go public on where the bodies were buried.

Luca is a politician and does nothing, says nothing, without reason.  I take it that the call for Max to step down was because Luca has lined up his own candidate (Todt) now - it was a coded message to Max that his time is up.  The later retraction wasn't a retraction at all.  Read it - he pats Max on the back for being such a great president, then says he's happy that Max won the vote.  Big deal, being happy with the past has nothing to do with what Luca plans now.

Then he says that it's up to Max whether he steps down or not.  Well, we knew that anyway, didn't we?  Nothing Luca said contradicted his already stated opinion that it's time for Max to leave.
Never mind me - read http://f1insight.madtv.me.uk/ :D
