The Supermarine Spitfire
« on: July 15, 2008, 05:05:44 PM »
The Supermarine Spitfire is a WWII icon – a testament to Allied engineering and innovation during one of the most important periods of aviation history.

Bonham and Goodman is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Spitfire becoming operational by offering a 1945 Supermarine Spitfire MK XVI at their inaugural sale of Collector’s Motor Cars and Aircraft, in New Zealand on September 14.

There are roughly 44 airworthy Spitfires in existence today, and it’s rare indeed for the general public to be given the opportunity to purchase such an important piece of history.

The Knockhill Circuit started doing a historic festival a couple of years ago.  One of the things they put on was an aerobatics display by a Spitfire.  The weather as is traditional for Knockhill was dodgy and the cloud was low but everyone regardless of age was transfixed by the Spitfire.

Nice one Ian.  :good:

I'm sure I've posted this before but it still makes me smile (watch out for the swearing at the end)

That clip of Alain de Cadenet is a classic! :good:

We had a Spitfire as the feature plane at our airshow a few years ago. A truely fantastic aircraft!
