Twin Towers On Cars
« on: July 23, 2006, 12:08:18 AM »
Rival Formula One teams confessed they would look into imitating BMW-Sauber's eye-sore 'Twin Towers' who made their circus debut in the French Grand Prix should they be found to improve aerodynamic performance. The fins are intended to clean up the air across the F1.06 car and towards the rear wing.

They themselves in a spot or two of trouble having been out of the points for the last six grands prix, Williams technical director Sam Michael admitted that the BMW appears to be running well and that he was open to experimenting with the concept.
"Their car is obviously working very well with the wings, which is affecting the air onto the rear wing," said Michael. "It's like any new part. We haven't tried it in the tunnel, but we'll have a look."

I for one think the top teams like renault, mclaren will have already
had the towers in their wind tunnels. Maybe they will be shortened
a bit, but we saw what it did for BMW.  :secret:

How long before they're banned for safety reasons?  ::)

Why Wizard? They do provide a steady airflow to the rear wing and by doing so create more downforce.
I for one would love to give all teams an open brief and cut all regulations, like it was.
Govern engine size
Set the Specifications for the Cars, and lets go racing.
All of the rules are Killing the sport. We might as well go back to racing in bathtubs.

The "Twin Towers" have been outlawed by the FIA ahead of this weekend's German Grand Prix.

With no grounds in the aerodynamic regulations to prevent the wings' installation, the governing body allowed the BMW to race with the nose fins at the French GP. It is believed several other teams looked to copy the solution for upcoming races.

Now, however, the FIA has decided to ban the fins on safety grounds, as they can interfere with a driver's vision ahead.

Told you  >:(
