Author Topic: Ferrari to put their past behind them??? I bet their fingers are crossed.  (Read 2336 times)

F1 Live:

Ferrari sees an upcoming meeting with its fellow F1 teams not only as an opportunity to discuss the future, but also symbolic of its desire to move on from the tensions of the past.

Inside the Williams motor home at Hockenheim, heads of the ten Grand Prix teams agreed to meet next Tuesday at Ferrari's Maranello headquarters to discuss in detail Max Mosley's desire for new rules in 2011.

Some practised sages of the paddock predicted that the choice of location for the teams' group meeting is significant, given Ferrari's history in matters regarding Formula One as a whole.

Stefano Domenicali now heads the defending champions' F1 effort, following a long period with Jean Todt at the helm, who was often accused of thinking insularly about the Italian marque.

Amid the manufacturer's initial 'breakaway' saga three years ago, Ferrari broke ranks and sided with the FIA.

The team was also at the centre of controversy last year amid the spying scandal -- but at Hockenheim, Ferrari figures including Domenicali accepted McLaren-Mercedes' invitation to attend a party.

Domenicali said of the upcoming F1 summit at Maranello: "Ferrari, and above all our President, is very keen to participate."

"Ferrari is part of F1 and Mr. (Luca) Montezemolo is really keen on that," he added.

Most all of the teams are headquartered in the UK. One team is headquartered in Maranello.

The meeting is in Maranello.

'Nuff said.

Presumably if Ferrari want to put the past behind them they will belatedly honour the other agreement that they broke unilaterally.  All the teams with tobacco sponsorship signed and agreement (it's on the net somewhere and you can read the whole text) to end tobacco sponsorship by the end of 2006(I think).  All the others did depriving themselves of income but Ferrari decided that because the EU had moved their deadline this somehow made an agreement with the other teams void so they kept taking Marlboro money.

So if Ferrari want me to believe that the past is over they should take all the Marlboro money earned since the deadline specified on that agreement plus the interest and donate it to charity.  Then I will believe them.

Of course it should be pointed out that the reason the teams signed the agreement in the first place was because Max banned tobacco advertising from the end of the season that the agreement came int effect.  Presumably with only Ferrari running tobacco branding he forgot to enforce it.

If Ferrari want me to believe the past is over, they'd stop politicking... (Even then the past wouldn't be over on this matter, since the Italian authorities are yet to complete their investigation of the McLaren/Ferrari mess and Ferrari are still pursuing Nigel Stepney).

In reality, the past is never behind us - it's all round us, merging into the present and future in unexpected and unpredictable ways.

Does anyone else see a possible move against the FIA here?

Yes, I think the meeting was arranged with this timing so they could also discuss their reaction to the Max vs NOTW outcome

yeah SD, that was my thinking on this meeting too.......but wait the FIA is checking on the LH McLAREN car, so FERRARI should not be TOO hasty as ole max could deliver them another WDC and WCC like he did last year!

I mean stripping lewis of the 20 points he just won at Silverstone and Hockenheim would go a long way wouldn't it?

Tricky and devious pack of b*****ds!
