What colour is your car?
« on: August 04, 2008, 11:42:39 PM »

You can have any colour you like, as long as it’s… white, silver, yellow, grey, red or blue.

According to research published in the British Medical Journal, silver cars are by far the least accident-prone, while those other colours mentioned above are also relatively safe.

Avoid black, green and brown cars. All are much more likely to wind up wrapped around a tree/lamppost/pedestrian/lone farmyard animal.

My car is black  :(

My dad's car is currently light blue. He's had pretty much every colour in the rainbow except purple (plus white, grey and black) in the past, and the only crash he's been in was in a dark blue car.

My car is white and my truck is red.Crash them
together and I'd have a sort of Toyota color
scheme

Friend of mine who sells cars said a green used
car is almost impossible to sell, why?look at a

My last but one car was silver and 3 times I had people run into it while it was stationary.  Fortunately it came off best by a long way in all three accidents and didn't need a single repair despite everything that hit it requiring a fair bit of duct tape etc.

My truck is white, but that's the company's fault. I have a habit of painting my cars green and white, dating back to my first one.

Maybe I'm the one running the figure up on green cars. ;)

There's an old saw amongst pilots that green planes are bad luck. Actually, they're just harder to see stuck in the trees!

Are green cars not supposed to be unlucky in the US or is it just at Indy.  I know one of the (many) complaints about Lotus was the colour because the locals said green was unlucky.  I guess they were right because with a bit of luck Clark could have won three in a row.

It's srange the car Clark was killed in had
the new Gold Leaf livery on it not green

I think green cars were considered unlucky at Indy

Every car I've owned has been black except the last one (Peugot mini-van).  Only accident I've ever been in (driving) was in the Peugot where I got creamed by a paint truck (it stayed green).  Thankfully the kids weren't in it at the time, because my son's booster seat was pushed from an outside seat into the middle seat in the accident, which he likely wouldn't have survived.  Happily, I'm back to black with a new VW Touran.

That carried into stock car racing, too. Back in the 80's, Harry Gant & Darrell Waltrip caused talk with their Skoal & Mt. Dew cars. I've even heard some talk about Jr's new paint jobs.

I used to get kidded about my green paint all the time.

F.Y.I., I've just put the first of the new green paint on some of the small parts off the Midget!

Green cars are considered unlucky in the USA, lucky in France, patriotic in Britain and have a mixture of receptions elsewhere.

I reckon the root of this is that green boats are considered unlucky (as far as I know, that is universal). There is no confirmed reason for why green boars are considered unlucky, but I think it's because boats built out of young and insufficiently dried (green) wood were liable to warp under the pressure of being sailed at sea. Some countries transferred this superstition onto other forms of transportation.

Green cars have been good to me I had a green Mini Travellor and a dark green Triumph GT6 in the 60/70s and have had a dark green Peugeot 505 estate in the 90s and a Toyota Previa in bottle green since 2001 to date; never had a shunt in any one of them. I got the GT6 and the 505 a bit cheaper when I bought them as the sellers found the public usually avoids green. I reckon green is lucky for me

However I have owned  a red Triumph TR6, a red Cortina 2000E and a red Focus, 2 of the 3 were totalled (only minor injuries) and the Cortina was badly damaged as well (only the TR6 was my fault).

I have also had prangs in White, Yellow, Tuquoise and dark blue cars. Never driven a silver car but my present company car is grey and that's accident free.
