Tyre blankets Banned
« on: July 31, 2006, 11:37:52 PM »
Tyre blankets will be banned at the end of the season, it emerged at Hockenheim.

To compliment Bridgestone's monopoly in 2007, the Technical Working Group voted on the change on Saturday as a way of slowing the cars, because the Japanese supplier's tyres will need to be able to operate effectively at lower temperature.

2007-spec tyres are also likely to be safer, as they will not lose as much pressure during safety car periods.

I like this idea, its going back to the 'good ol days' when tyres had to get up to speed before they performed correctly and the emphasis was on the driver to get the car round as quickly as possible until full grip was restored.  :good:

I am sure the tyre manufacturers will produce a compound to give maximum grip at nearly all temperatures but even this is a good thing, surely this technology will eventually filter down to the everyday tyres we all use. After all we all buy tyres, so isn't it us who's paying for all of the development?
