GP2 champ Pantano hoping for F1 ride

I think his age will stop him from receiving
any consideration

I think he's had his shot at F1. It's wise of him to speak so well of the IRL. That's where he'll probably end up.

trouble is he had his shot in a 04 Jordon, not the best
of cars.He would have been like most Italian drivers,
look great in a few races but have tpp many up and
down races to be a threat for a WDC

Pantano is hoping for an F1 seat.  I am hoping for a lottery win.  THe difference is that there is a chance that I will win the lottery.

Seems nuts that the current GP2 champ can be washed up but ageism is in fashion in F1. Time was you were just coming into your prime at 29 now you're past it.

I personally think Pantano should look at sports cars and give the IRL a miss, but no doubt he will follow the money and who can blame him..

Unless Pantano has improved a lot since 2004, I can't see any adventure in F1 faring any better than the no-points-suspended-and-then-sacked-without-regret fate he got four years ago. Something tells me the other team bosses don't see any possibility of such a venture working either.

This is true. GP2 is not very strong at all at the moment. It's got the same problem as F3000 before it - and indeed every feeder series since the number of seats exceeded the number of drivers who could be readied for the next step within a year. The quality will always waver because the supply will always be erratic.

The difference between Senna and Pantano that is significant is that Senna hasn't completely fluffed any steps on the ladder yet. So the marketing advantages can be brought to bear without the millstone of previous results weighing him down.
