Stewards investigating Chinese GP
« on: October 02, 2006, 10:55:26 AM »

Shanghai Stewards are investigating the incident-packed final lap of the Chinese Grand Prix.

With the rain falling in the final stages, Nick Heidfeld, Rubens Barrichello, Pedro de la Rosa and Jenson Button were tussling for position when they came upon Takuma Sato, who was being lapped in his Super Aguri.

Heidfeld, fourth at the time, had already struggled to lap Christijan Albers and then run off track at the first turn allowing the Dutch racer back through. As Heidfeld slithered back onto the circuit Takuma Sato, a lap down, chased and then passed Heidfeld for track position.

For over a lap Sato kept the BMW Sauber driver behind, even moving to the middle of the circuit on the back straight on the final lap as Heidfeld moved into his slip-stream.

This blocked Heidfeld who was suddenly swamped by Jenson Button in his Honda, Pedro de la Rosa and Rubens Barrichello - who actually struck the back of the F1.06 breaking his front wing - but able to make the pass. Heidfeld finished a furious seventh

"This was the most disappointing race of my career - not only in F1 but in my entire life," Heidfeld fumed.

It remains to be seen if the Stewards will take action over Sato's driving.

"No Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you rich."
