Loeb May Leave WRC
« on: March 27, 2009, 12:19:09 PM »
Sébastien Loeb, a five-time WRC champion for Citroën, Has said that he will leave the sport rather than switch to the non-turbo S2000 cars next season.

“The dream for the spectators won’t be the same. When they are standing and watching a car, thinking, ‘Maybe my own car is faster than this one,’ the excitement will not be the same as it is with a World Rally Car. I always said it would be better with the turbo, and this is how I feel.”

Loeb, whose contract with Citroën expires at the end of the season, wants to take in more circuit races this season. He is scheduled to test the Peugeot 908 HDi Le Mans prototype.

“You can search the world over for the finer things, but you won't find a match for the American road and the creatures that live on it.”

Loeb has been saying this for ages.  Usual racing driver stuff.  If the cars are slower than they are now then they are not real cars.  Time he had a bit of competition.

That's a bit harsh Steven, it's hardly his fault that the other competitors can't live with with his pace. They can't even blame it on his car either as his teamates never get on terms with him either.

There are only two works teams in the WRC which means a maximum of 4 competitive cars.  There are world champions who can't get a drive and that has been the case for a few years.  Colin McRae couldn't get a drive for a couple of seasons.  Loeb is good but had he been around ten years earlier he would have been lucky to win 2 championships.
