F1 car or Superbike?
« on: November 02, 2006, 01:36:41 PM »
F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi and Moto GP racer John Hopkins had a unique insight into each others' worlds on Tuesday as they tried out each other’s machinery at Valencia in Spain.

Amercian rider Hopkins, 23, who has been a regular visitor to Formula One races over the past two years, was delighted to be given the chance to drive one of Scuderia Toro Rosso's cars due to his links with the team's owners Red Bull.

And after a few spins, he lapped just five seconds slower than Liuzzi, who has campaigned the car this season, and was delighted with his performance.

"I've been waiting for this for weeks," Hopkins said. "At first it was a bit overwhelming, looking at all the buttons on the steering wheel, but once I understood the most important thing is to keep the heat in the tyres under braking then it all got easier.

"It's easy to say you can do this but when the time actually comes, it's quite a challenge and I spun it a couple of times."

Italian Liuzzi, 25, was even more excited with his laps on Suzuki's XRE 4, even if he could not push quite as hard as he would have liked too.

"It was an orgasm! It was amazingly cool! It was really great!" said an excited Liuzzi. "I've always loved bikes but after today, I love them even more, because the guys who race these are unbelievable and not human.

"The bike is like a crazy horse and it is really difficult to keep the front end down. I was trying, but I kept something in reserve because I am testing (his F1 car) in two weeks."

"The most amazing thing about the bike was the grip, as you can lean right over. Unbelievable! I would love to have a race on this bike."

Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
