Wurz to head new team for 2010
« on: June 01, 2009, 07:05:38 PM »

In this report from gpupdate.net Alex and the Superfund team have lodged an entry for 2010 making 15 teams that have disclosed their entry.

Of these new teams just who will succeed with their plan to get into F1?  I think USGP, Lola and this entry from Superfund will get in (because Bernie or Max like them), what does anyone else think?

Former driver Alexander Wurz is set to head the brand-new Team Superfund, possibly entering F1 next season. The Austrian, who last raced in 2007 for Williams, has been revealed as team principal to the squad which will be owned and funded by investment company Superfund and powered by Cosworth engines.

With all current teams plus a selection of debutants having already submitted entries for 2010, Autosport has revealed that Superfund - lead by Austrian Christian Baha - has also put forward an entry bid to governing body the FIA. The company becomes the fifth entrant after Campos, USF1, Lola and Prodrive to apply for next year and it is believed that planning for the project is already at an 'advanced stage'; it has also been revealed that the outfit is in contact with superior Formula One personnel, although no information was allegedly provided over driver options.

With fifteen teams now having submitted entry and only thirteen slots available in the pit lane, 26 cars will be seen on next year's starting grid as the FIA looks select what it believes are the most suitable candidates; the revealing of 2010's full line-up will take place next Friday, 12 June.

26 cars on the grid :yahoo:that is excellent. Not a few weeks ago we thought that we were going to have a few less. Still don't like the budget cap but

This isn't the first time Prodrive was approved to join the grid.  They were a victim of sudden rule changes then, and the FOTA is still insisting on sudden rule changes (well, a reversal of the sudden rule changes that Prodrive was expecting to be in place) that could cause them to think twice.

I'm looking forward to a full grid of competitive cars though!

Now, now Ali, lets try to be positive.

Alex has tons of testing and car development experience and he also has race experience so he is a great package for a team.  In fact he and JV ran in the Porsche Lemans Series together and tested as well.

Maybe that's who JV should be talking too.

 Maybe he is....

It's not Wurz/Superfund I'm worried about missing the grid (since he, unlike most of the newbie teams, actually has a plan for shoestring factory resource and staff acquisition) - it's the FOTA lot. But that's a debate for another thread...
