Goodwood Festival of Speed Auction
« on: June 24, 2009, 08:18:57 PM »
The Bonhams team’s world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed auction, now in its 17th year, will take place on July 3.

As a founding sponsor of this wonderful event, Bonhams will once again line up a great selection of sports, competition and collectors’ cars, automobilia and models for sale.

Leading this grand auction is a 1965 Ford GT40 Endurance Racing Coupe, a classical 200mph legend that has regularly proved itself as a competitive historic racing front-runner and race winner. The iconic car is estimated at between £900,000 and £1,100,000.

Other highlights from the sale include:

1922 Sunbeam 2-litre Strasbourg Grand Prix Works Racing Car (£300,000 - £400,000)
1963 Morris Mini Cooper S Rally Saloon (£80,000 - £100,000)
1931 Bentley 4-Litre Coupe with coachwork by H. J. Mulliner (£180,000 - £240,000)
1958 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I Drophead Coupe with coachwork by Mulliner & Co (£210,000 - £240,000)
1973 Ferrari 246 GTS Dino which (£65,000 - £75,000)

Price of the Ford will depend heavily on it's history and provenance.

I guess Wiz will be attending to pick up a few nifty prizes for next year's competitions.   ;) ;)

I was just listening to a replay of a Goodwood race on Radio LeMans. They talked to Sir Sterling Moss after one race. He was not happy. It seems a car spun at one point on the circuit, and they put out a full course yellow. Sir Sterling complained, "It's supposed to be a race, not a parade!"

They mentioned that Sir Sterling is 79. Now that's what I call a driver!

From the Goodwood race site: Wiz might not get one of the cars that he listed, but he might just get the Bugatti Type 35 on this page. I might have to order one or more of he prints at the bottom.

I wish the Moss or Surtees prints showed the whole car. Those are among my favorites.
