Max Will Step Down
« on: July 15, 2009, 01:37:55 PM »
FIA President Max Mosley has made it official. He has released a letter saying that he will not stand for re-election in October. In the letter, he endorses Jean Todt as his replacement.

The letter is on the FIA website:

Former World Rally Champion Ari Vatanen has also announced that he intends to stand for election, and has received the backing of many in the F1 community.

For any enthusiast that wasn't already anti-Todt; Max's endorsement is surely enough to convince them to get behind Vatanen!

Let's not be hasty, I'd like to see Todt's 22 man cabinet.  I mean, he must have one in place before being endorsed by a well meaning and highly regarded figure such as Mr. Mosley, right?

If I don't know who's going to be in charge of seatbelt buckle recomendations, I just can't form an opinion.

Well... yes, I did intend sarcasm, but now that I think about it, I DO actually have an issue with seatbelt buckle designs.

I cannot safely ride in a Toyota, as the seatbelt has a size limit I happen to currently exceed.  Ford gives me a free seatbelt extension that works quite nicely.

Not that I expect the president of the FIA to solve this, though upon further reflection... I guess the power does rest with him (or her!).

I should have said Secretary of Cup Holders ;-)

With your avatar on the left and discussions of size my mind was on completely the wrong type of Cup!

On a serious note; let us hope that they find a new President and entourage that actually understands motor racing and can give a balanced view. We need people that can move the whole of motor racing into a long and sucessful future. In my opinion that requires ex-drivers and probably some women.

If I posted a more recent avatar... you'd see the problem ;-)

I do think that having a cabinet in place is a pretty good idea for the president of the FIA.  22 seems kind of onerous though.

We keep looking at the FIA as the regulator of Formula One, but there is far more to the job.  I don't really know what it is off hand, but if there's a need for 22 deputies, that seems like F1 is just a tiny corner of the FIA

I want to know how many hours it will be before Max goes back on his word. He's done it too many times now for me to put any faith in this document.

Personally I wouldn't be too surprised if there is some backroom CVC financed 'golden handshake' for Max to leave.

I will believe Max when I see his ass walking out the door. And I do not mean him wearing his assless chaps from the porn event!!

Too bad that he felt the need to screw Jean Todt's nomination by an endorsement.

As I have always said, any situation can be rectified by throwing enough money at it.

I completely agree.  The only solution was to have Max step down with immediate effect.  Apparently there are those in FOTA who are too spineless to force such a solution.  To me there is no question that Max will do his damnest to try to trip up the FOTA teams every chance he gets until his very last days at the FIA, and what does such a letter mean anyhow?  I can write letters to my grandmother that are full of lies (I don't, but I could), so why should anyone believe a letter from someone as two-faced as Max?  How about a notarized contract that he is going to step down in October or pay FOTA $300m?  That would get my grumbling approval at least.  This letter is nothing but a joke.

I love how he claims Todt has no motorsports affiliations.  The fact that he bothers to suggest that is insulting.  I guess he has to somehow educate all those central African and northern Asian members of the FIA since they haven't had F1 broadcasts during the Todt years at Ferrari.  To be fair, Todt would likely be much more objective than Max in all matters, but unfortunately he is such a detail guy that he would hold to every rule and regulation regardless of the possible damage to the sport (remember Indy-gate).
The Honey Badger doesn't give a...
