Straight-line testing for Romain Grosjean
« on: July 30, 2009, 07:21:01 PM »

Looks like Piquet might need to book his flight home.

Romain Grosjean appears to have moved another step closer to securing his Grand Prix debut.

Amid reports of a terminal falling-out between Flavio Briatore and Nelson Piquet, the French-Swiss reserve driver Grosjean was this week asked by Renault to conduct driving duties at a straight-line test.

The session took place on the runaway of the Duxford Imperial War Museum in Cambridgeshire.

Grosjean is second in the GP2 championship behind Williams F1 reserve Nico Hulkenberg.

If he is second in the GP2 series I would have thought he would have been better waiting until 2010 to enter F1, he has a good chance of winning the title there. Or is the pull of F1 worth throwing that chance away?

If the Renault contract covers 2010 as well as 2009, it would be worth quitting GP2 mid-season to go there. It's not like Romain would get a better seat if he waited the extra half-year...
