Brazilian embassy in Senna tribute
« on: September 03, 2009, 02:55:45 PM »

Good to see his country is still so proud of Ayrton by paying tribute. Just a shame other countries especially New Zealand don't follow suit. Yes you've guessed I have been looking again at the excellent vids (in Dare's thread 'Trio on the Top') of the famous 3 from NZ and find it hard to understand why Bruce and Denny are such forgotton heros. So Brazil and Ayrton I salute you.

By Jonathan Noble, Today, Autosport.

Ayrton Senna will be remembered at a special tribute event at the Brazilian embassy in Rome later this month.

To mark the 15th anniversary since the three-time champion was killed at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, the embassy is to host a display featuring three of his cars - from F1, F3 and Formula Ford – as well as helmets, racing gear and other memorabilia.

As well as focusing on Senna's racing career, the display will also honour the work that the Ayrton Senna Institute – which has helped improve the lives of less fortunate Brazilians. The charity has donated more than 70 million Euros over the past 15 years to help more than 11 million Brazilian children.

The event runs from September 18-20, with Senna's sister Vivianne and his nephew Bruno attending the opening day.

Each country has their own favourite sports and heroes.  I don't expect the Canadian government to do anything for the Villeneuves, and yet it's not a surprise when the entire city of Montreal shuts down when a hockey player passes away.

It's also a little different, Latin American countries aren't given the respect they're due in the world, so when someone comes along to beat Europeans at their own game, there's a little extra kick of national pride.

Well done to Brazil for honouring their lost son.

Yeah John S, I am a NZ'er, now living in Australia, and share your concern at my birth country's indifference to Denny, Bruce and the still living chris AMON

unfortunately unless you were an All Black, a cricketer or a track and field athelete not much kudos came your way in NZ but attitudes are changing.
