Elio Zagato Dies
« on: September 18, 2009, 04:18:21 PM »
Automotive legion Elio Zagato has died at the age of 88. He and Ercole Spada created countless designs for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat, and Lancia. These included the Alfa Romeo 1900 SSZ, Ferrari 250 GTZ, Maserati A6G, and Aston Martin DB4 GTZ. His personal favorite was the Fiat 8V Zagato from the mid-50's (See picture)

He also was an avid racer. He won 82 of the 150 races he ran, including the Targa Florio and the Coppa Intereuropas. He created his trademark "double bubble" roof to allow space for drivers' helmets.

He was the son of Ugo Zagato, and ran the family design. It will now be run by family members Andrea and Marella Zagato.

the beauty of his designs will live on. Condolences to his family and friends.

One of the greatest designers ever!

Condolences to his family and all who was lucky enough to know him.
