McLaren welcome Hakkinen back into test driving seat

Alan Henry
Thursday November 30, 2006
The Guardian

The former world champion Mika Hakkinen is to test a McLaren-Mercedes formula one car at Barcelona today as part of the team's development programme for the 2007 season.
It will be the first time that the 38-year-old Finn has driven a McLaren since the 2001 Japanese grand prix after which he retired, although he has competed for two years with a Mercedes touring car in Germany.

"A driver of Mika's calibre and experience can only bring added value to our test programme," said Ron Dennis, the McLaren chairman, who has said that Lewis Hamilton will partner Fernando Alonso next season.
