Williams Goes With Cosworth
« on: October 30, 2009, 01:37:49 PM »
Sir Frank has confirmed that Williams will switch to Cosworth engines for 2010.

"We've finished our contract with Toyota and we've moved on to a British engine manufacturer Cosworth with whom we have won many world championships in the past," he told the Gulf News.

"They are 50 miles away from Williams which is very convenient. Besides we also like our independence. We will be not under the influence, not that Toyota ever bossed around, but we've just gone a private and independent route."

I've already unpacked my 2006 Williams Cosworth gear.  ;)

I had to get rid of my 2006 gear as it had Webber all over it!  No, seriously I had a jumper which got ruined and a Nico t-shirt.

Well, it is confirmed now, so I might as well embrace it.  Come on Cosworth!  Great being an all round independent again.  Looking forward to the driver confirmation on Monday, bring on Rubens and the Hulk!

Are you saying Renault & Ferrari refused to supply him?

Probably not at the budget he offered

I cannot imagine Frank ever even contemplated Ferrari and Renault probably preferred to hang on to Red Bull and possibly would not commit to Williams until RBR had made up their minds (after all, who is more likely to be winning in 2010?)

Anyway, today's decision probably shows why Williams left Toyota a year early, obviously they were tipped off.

So if Williams knew Toyota was on the way out, why hold up Sauber/Quadback from coming back in?

Also, why pursue one of their sponsors?

He probably held up the application just to get one of their sponsors.  He needs the money what with his current sponsors RBS leaving!  I don't know, maybe he was completely out of the loop like the rest of us.
