Porsche to Return to LeMans P1?

It looks likes Porsche may return to the top class at LeMans. This would coincide with the major rules changes for the 2011 season.

Porsche AG’s CEO Michael Macht spoke at their Night of Champions celebration last week. “Motorsport is a central element of our company’s DNA. And it will hold an important role in the future. I’m not the only one at Porsche to be tempted to race for overall victory again at the Le Mans 24 hour race.”

Since it seem unlikely that they would have two teams competing in the same class, this could spell the end of the Audi LeMans program. Audi has already announced that it will miss the 12 Hours of Sebring next spring. This will be the first time in a decade that Audi will miss the U.S.'s premier sports endurance race.
