Title: Malaysia Qualifying 2010
Post by: Scott on April 03, 2010, 10:38:15 AM
Wow - who saw THAT coming?  Apparently that is a new way to shake up the grid.  You don't need sprinklers during the race, just qualifying.  :D

I see nobody got a point for Pole pick.  Congratulations to Webber on a great drive to Pole in horrible conditions (thanks Bernie, maybe you have actually done something right by scheduling Malaysia in Monsoon season).

Mclaren and Ferrari had a wee bit too much confidence that the weather would improve it seems, and both teams are relegated to the backfield, which will make for a very interesting start and race tomorrow.  Both Sauber's in the top 10, making me happy, and if Vettel couldn't take pole, at least his teammate did - showing again the strength of the Red Bulls.  Nice surprise for Williams in the top 10 as well.  Let's hope the Hulk and Ruby can stay at the sharp end tomorrow.  Rubens is known for competent wet weather driving, and Hulk didn't seem phased at all during Q.  Rosberg once again out-pacing his famous teammate, and Sutil and Liuzzi making a great showing as well (Ali will be cheering them on tomorrow).

Great to see Mark bounce back after OZ, if anyone has big enough kahoonas to risk inters it's him, real bonzer mate! :good:

Sure looks like an interesting race in prospect, with the grid looking like that we probably wont need rain in the race to keep things lively.

Definitely a qualifying mayhem, anybody could have been on the pole...glad its webber...it shows his strength as a real racing driver and a man for the future..

I am a schumi fan...to see him outpaced thrice by his team-mate does give me blow, but i must admit nico is really driving like a champion, to outpace schumi in the condition where schumi used to thrive most shows what he is made off and a future star to reacon with....

Can't wait for tomorrow.....THE RACE......

Very poor showing by the "big boys" Ferrari and Mclaren, it's their fault really as they didn't try to get any Bankers between them!!  It should, hopefully, be a good race weather permitting, and I still think that Hamilton will come up with something good, perhaps a P6/5 finish......

what a pig of a qualifying session. Turned out to be a lottery.

I do dislike the Asian circuits and cannot wait for the European GPs to begin

......and as for picking the first eight finishers!!!!!!!!!

aaaaaargh! :DntKnw:  :( :o :swoon: ::) :tease:   :-[

My thoughts exactly SenneMan, after much contemplation I decided #*** it and I've just stuck a pin in the list of the ones I expect to finish. :D

I became disappointed that Ferrari lost chance to top 10 because they were too late at 2nd attempt in Qualy 3 session (the heavy rain stopped it for a moment). Now the team must push really hard to get scores tomorrow!! It was nice surprise to see Mark at pole setter because normally there is Hamilton/Vettel/Alonso. Will be very interesting and difficult race for teams tomorrow!

I guess we'll get to see what a "reverse grid" would actually be like.  ;)

great point cossie, especially as some are suggesting F1 adopt them!

fascinating to think how the race is going to pan out. So many possibilities

certainly NOT boring!

:DD and best of luck John. Using that pin may outfox and outwit us all!

too tough for me to call with any confidence [as misplaced as it has been]

Sutil and Liuzzi making a great showing as well (Ali will be cheering them on tomorrow). {Scott - original post}

I certainly will be cheering the Force India team on :D

As for Ferrari and McLaren - why hadn't they thought of doing banker laps? At least they'll have plenty of wet-weather tyres for tomorrow, though I don't see how that will compensate for their poor grid positions.

It's my understanding that teams have a fixed set of wet/inter tires for the entire weekend.  I wonder if McLaren/Ferrari were trying to be conservative with their allotment.

After seeing RBR split their driver strategies, I wonder if other teams might try that for the next wet quali.

(Incidentally, can we see about making the next race in Atlantis, to ensure a wet track?  :tease: )
