Title: F1 Dream Team 2019

Hi everyone!

I have been talking to Wizzo behind the scenes and he (along with his admins) have given their blessing for me to approach you all with my dream team system.

My F1 Dream Team system is running for it's third year now.  It's an intimate little website, which I coded/designed, purely for Formula 1 communities, such as GPW.    As I have mentioned to Wizzo, this is a "stand alone" website, which doesn't have a community of it's own, it simply supports existing communities with all pertinent info posted on each respective forum.

One other important thing to mention, this would work side by side with your Grid Game here on GPW, as they are essentially very different approaches.   Your grid game is a race-2-race predictions game, where as my F1 Dream Team is a seasonal selection process, with 1 team & 1 driver change during the summer break.

I am sure there is much more info I need to share with you all, but for now, I am simply trying to provide some background to the system. I start working on the 2019 version of the F1 Dream Team tomorrow, so would appreciate feedback from each of you, when time permits.  If requested, I can provide a link to the 2018 season (live website) .... as the web pages are being coded/re-designed for the 2019 season in the days/weeks ahead.

I'm not sure who voted "I would like more details (message me)" ... but you didn't identify yourself in this topic, or indeed, by connecting with myself.

So ... to help things along, here is the Q&A from the 2018 'Group Picks' section of the website.
http://www.okanaganforum.com/f1-dream-team-2018/group-picks.html

Of course, you are welcome to peruse the entire website from the link above, which should give you a better feel of how things run.  The 2019 website will essentially operate the same, just re-designed "graphically" and of course, new team/driver data, race calendar dates, stats etc.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Thanks for humouring me, but it categorically appears that nobody here on GPW is interested in entertaining my F1 Dream Team for the 2019 season.

I will now go ahead and start development with one F1 community involvement.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Hi folks!

I have removed the Poll (to be honest, I don't think the principle of a poll - I would rather talk to people out in the open.  So, with that said, I will keep a list in this post and update it in the days ahead.

As far as timelines are concerned, I have been on hold for quite a while and recently received the 'green light' to post details regarding GPW's involvement in the F1 Dream Team 2019.  I can stretch another week, if I feel that 10-12 members from GPW will commit to joining in the fun, otherwise, I need to watch the clock and start work on the 2019 system (mainly as I need to adapt the coding based on 1 or 2 Formula One communities.

Again, please note that my F1 Dream Team is a "stand alone" system, which is deliberately designed to "attach" to your community, with all info, links and updates posted in your community, so members don't have to "come to me" ... I come to you!!

I welcome and questions/concerns folks - at the end of the day, I am an F1 fan, just like you (and I genuinely have a soft spot for this community, that's why I am here).

Best Regards,
Cal :)

I might have a go, but don't understand why you need 10-12 members from GPW. Last year everyone seemed to be a team on their own. ?????

Hi John!

Thanks for posting and I welcome your query.

Basically, I have one F1 community who have been involved with the F1 Dream Team since 2016.  Typically, 20-25 members came forward to take part.  So, this season, I am hoping to involve two F1 communities, to give an extra dimension to the system.  In effect, it would involve 10-12 members from each community (possibly more, based on initial interest) and would essentially become "player v player" and "f1 forum v f1 forum".  So, the Leaderboard would look like a conventional table with every player involved fighting for position, while the bigger picture would show overall totals from each community.

I hope that makes some sense?

Best Regards,
Cal :)

While I think of it, another thing to mention regarding the F1 Dream Team is, it won't take up much of your time, as you choose your Teams/Drivers from around the pre-season testing to a set date before the green light in Australia.  The only other time you would need to be involved, is during the Summer Break, where you can change 1 team and 1 driver - that's it.

So, in that respect, it wouldn't get in the way of your Grid Game Predictions competition, as that is a very different system/approach to the F1 Dream Team.

Hope this helps?

Best Regards,
Cal :)

If we fail to reach 10-12 interested GPW members for the F1 Dream Team by Monday, 14th January, then I will go ahead and code the website for 1 F1 community.   However, I won't leave the members who have shown interest, out in the cold.  I will include you in the 2019 run and will post news/race updates here on GPW!

Hey, Sir Benny, do I get bonus points for saying I will play first???  ;)

Yes! ... I can exercise the rule that sends 5,000 points in your direction, but I will be later found of breaching Article 28,41,91b, Section 17c, Sub-Section 4, Para 3, Rule 198,174-14d ... so basically, what I am saying, is I would be removing 6,000 points from your total, as you know how it goes in F1, the driver pays for Team Errors!!  :D :DD :( :DntKnw: |-(

Hi folks!

I would like to thank the 4 members who are looking to join the F1 Dream Team.  I will start coding tomorrow, so it now looks like I will only be setting things up for the existing F1 community, which I have worked with over the past 3 years.   I still welcome interest from GPW members, but it will now be structured around a single F1 community, not "site v site".

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Hi folks!

Just to let you know that I am now at the "Count Me In!" stage on the other F1 community forum.  I will share pertinent information regarding the F1 Dream Team with 'both' communities, but right now, it's simply a head count on both websites, while I carry out updates (structure/design/data) behind the scenes.

Q: When am I able to choose my Dream Team selections?

I will be looking to "OPEN" the selection process on 18th February, 2019. Whether you have a firm idea of your choices at this point, or would prefer to wait until after pre-season testing, it's entirely up to you. You will be able to make your finalised Dream Team choices between 18th February > 8th March, 2019 (9th > 11th March for 'Reserved' Players).

As with the 2018 season, I am looking at a maximum of 20 players from the external site, so the "Count Me In!" timeline will conclude on 11th February, 2019. If we reach 20 players by this point, I will automatically add interested players to the "Reserved List" ... should any Potential Players not submit their Team/Driver selections by 8th March, we will include Players from the "Reserved List" in order of posts.

The first paragraph above, will be included in the 2019 "Group Picks" Q&A section of the website.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Q: So, What's New in the F1 Dream Team this Year?

The system & layout will pretty much be the same as 2018.  Of course, it goes without saying that the obvious changes will include Teams/Drivers line-ups, potential changes to car paint jobs and venue dates/locations.

Other changes include new page backdrops and some minor updates to website elements here and there, essentially a "spruce up" from the 2018 theme.

Now, one of the significant changes I would like to share with you, is the Team/Driver change during the season.   This year, there will be two opportunities to change 1 Team and 1 Driver.   I am refering to this approach as the "5-7-9 Shuffle" ... as you will be able to make these changes after 5 races in, then after another 7 races in, leaving the final 9 race venues as a battle to the end of the season.

Keep checking in to this topic, as I will soon be preparing the "Group Picks" website page (with some interesting group selections for you to chew over ahead of the 2019 campaign).

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Q: I am new to the F1 Dream Team, so what do I need to know? ...

If you are new to the F1 Dream Team in 2019, please visit last season's "Group Picks" from the link below and review the Q&A section at the bottom of the web page. This will give you an outline of the system/rules & approach to the 2019 season - of course, there will be new dates/timelines and a couple of small rule changes, but this will help you learn the ropes before we get things underway in the 2019 campaign.

Sneak Peek:  (Shared Info)

Well, I thought I'd give potential players an early look at the Group Picks for the F1 Dream Team 2019. After careful consideration, this is the Team/Driver group picks for the season ahead. I've updated the teams/drivers as best I can, so hopefully there will be no last minute surprises, other than Racing Point's "final" name change in the days/weeks ahead. As you can see, we wave goodbye to Sauber, as their new branding is now "Alfa Romeo Racing".

So, other than Team colour schemes and car paint jobs for 2019, I'm hoping everything else is set in stone. The screenshot below will help you start to prepare the selections you make in just over 2 weeks time.

I hear you Luke! :)

To be honest, I took part last season (just to make the players list a round 20 entrants) ... and ended up finishing 17th out of 20 ... and that was after making a couple of key changes (1 team & 1 driver) during the summer break.

So ... don't concentrate on that "Wooden Spoon" too much, you could win ya know!  :yahoo:

Exactly John!  :good:

If any members are still chewing over joining in, they simply have to post "Count Me In!" on this topic and I will promptly add them to the provisional list on Page 1 of this topic.

After the 11th Feb deadline, I will no longer be accepting "Count Me In's" .... and by starting on 18th, players will have access to the "Group Picks" section of the website and begin studying their potential Team/Drivers.  Players can then post their finalised choices between 18th Feb > 8th March.

Cal :)

I meant to add ...

There are two methods of providing your entry details (18th Feb > 8th March).

If you are happy to share your choices with everyone involved, you can simply post them on this topic, for example:

(sample from 2018 data)
RFM Username - Joe Bloggs
My Country Flag - United Kingdom

My Team Name - F1 Top Dogs
Profile Colour - 12

Team A - Ferrari
Team B - Force India
Team C - McLaren
Team D - Sauber

Driver E - Sebastian Vettel
Driver F - Valterri Bottas
Driver G - Sergio Perez
Driver H - Sergey Sirotkin
Driver I - Fernando Alonso
Driver J - Stoffel Vandoorne
Driver K - Charles Leclerc

Or ... you can submit your choices via email (either in simple text or from the PDF Entry Form, which will be available on the "Group Picks" section of the website.  Details on this approach are outlined on the Q&A on the bottom of the "Group Picks" web page.

Any questions, please do ask, as I will make things as clear as possible!

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Thanks for your selections Luke, you should now be all set up with your Dream Team Profile and Player Sheet.  Please look over things when time allows ... and let me know if all your details/selections are accurate.

Otherwise, I accept a slap to the back of the head, if any errors/typos are discovered.

All the best,
Cal :)

P.S. The "Please use this topic for sign up ONLY!" is primarily for the other F1 community, not here - my mistake.

On your site, the link at the end of this sentence seems to be broken:

Once you are happy with your team and driver selections (should be a total of 11 choices), you can either send along an email from the link on the bottom left of your screen or if you are happy to share your choices with other players prior to the deadline, you can post   them on the RFM Forum HERE!

Everything else looks good though!  The little pictures of the cars look good and that wonderful photo on the leaderboard page is out of the world!

Fixed that error 5 mins ago Luke, so thanks for that heads up - to be honest, I was scratching my head last night, as I thought you were referring to a link here on GPW .... then the penny dropped.   I've had to customise quite a fair bit of coding to involve both websites, although it's not the "head-2-head" option I was initially looking at, but there you go.  We hopefully still interest 4-5 people on here, so see how it all shakes out in the coming 2-3 weeks.

Glad you like my "wee cars" ... to be honest, I only put a certain amount of detail/accuracy into them, as once they are squashed down to 17% of actual size, a lot of the pixel detail is crushed, so it's one of those "visual identifiers" really (they look quite hideous at full size).

All the best,
Cal :)

I'm still waaaay behind on watching pre-season coverage John (watched 20 mins of Day 1 Test 1 so far), so I'll find out real soon, which teams have produced paint job perfection and which teams have strapped a paint bomb onto the car!!!  :DD

Really nice to see "real cars" on track after studying web shots/launch shots etc.

Collecting Points Data and Re-Selections in 2019 (shared info)

I will continue to collect race points and fastest laps from formula1.com in 2019.  This will co-exist with the points which I give out for each finishing position (as with previous years).   As formula1.com's points gathering system can be a little robotic, I will now be changing to DHL's data for "Fastest Pit Stop" in 2019.   This will not affect anything from the Player's end, but should provide a more accurate report for fastest pit stops in any given race.

I would also like to remind everyone, that you will be required to change 1 Team and 1 Driver "twice" in 2019, so please keep that in mind, otherwise, your original selections will remain for the entire season, should you not submit your potential changes at these specific times in the 2019 season.  For more info on this, I encourage you to visit the 8 February announcement on the F1 Dream Team home page (http://www.okanaganforum.com/f1-dream-team-2019/home.html).

Best Regards,
Cal :)

The 2019 Team/Driver Submissions are now Closed!   (Shared Info)

I would like to thank everyone who came forward with their selections for the 2019 campaign, as we now have 24 players signed up, with a potential 2 'reserve' players to take part in the next 48hrs.

Could I ask everyone to take one final look over their website Profile/Player Sheet details and get in touch as soon as possible, should there be any errors/typos which need addressed (see 'Player Sheet' page on website).

I will now be finalising/streamlining coding behind the scenes and preparing all the data prior to the Green Light in Melbourne on March 17th, so if you don't here from me before then, I hope everyone enjoys the season opener in Australia.

Note: I encourage players to regularly check into the F1 Dream Team Home Page, as important news/updates will appear on this page.  Otherwise, in traditional fashion, updates to the website pages will be posted on both RFM & GPW, 24-48 hours after each race.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example Post:

Updates from Brazilian GP:

• Announcements
• Race Calendar
• Player Sheets
• Stats Centre
• Leaderboard

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, I would also like to mention the 6 players who are joining us from the GP Wizard F1 forum in 2019.  Much respect to them for participating in our little bit of competitive fun!

All the best,
Cal :)

Everyone in their Seats...   (Shared Info)

Twenty six players are now ready to do battle in 2019, as we have only a matter of days until the Green Light in Melbourne - Let's hope it's an action packed opener in Australia!!!!

Well, nothing more to report at this point, so ENJOY next weekend when you get there. As with previous seasons, I should have the website data (Race Points, Player Sheets, Stats and Leaderboard) in place between 24-48hrs after each race. Of course, race updates will be posted on both RFM and GPW forums.

F1 Weekends are 'almost' Here!!

All the best,
Cal :)

I hope you enjoy it Warmwater! :)

Now, this I find funny.  It's been an interesting debate, as far as bonus points on the F1 Dream Team in 2018, where it's now being discussed for involvement in actual racing situations (only for the top 10).

Indeed John! ...

Time to knock on the FIA's front door and demand commission for the well exercised system you have been using here on the GPW forum.

I gave the F1 Dream Team players 4 options last year ...

1) Fastest Lap
2) Fastest Pit Stop
3) Lap Record
4) Driver of the Day

... 1) and 2) were unanimous, so that's what we run with last season and everyone is happy to continue with those points extras in 2019.

There was one "hoo-hah" in 2018, as one of the races had the safety car march them all through the pit lane on around lap 2-3? ... of course, formula1.com (robotic as they are) ... recorded one of the cars having achieved the "fastest pit stop" during this exercise and it almost created WWIII on the dream team .... so, this year, we are running with DHL's Fastest Pit Stop ... takes the heat away from me, so can't be a bad thing!!  :yahoo:

Best Regards,
Cal :)

DHL Stats ... (shared info)

It seems that having changed to DHL for the Fastest Pit stop in 2019, has started with an error on their part.  I now see that they have included the video above the table for Bahrain (delayed) and "altered" the video for Australia (now with changed footage).

So, in short, the 5 points given to Verstappen in Melbourne for Fastest Pit Stop, now has to be switched to Gasly.  This puts me behind schedule, but I will work on things today when time permits.  Needless to say, your updates from this past weekend's race will be delayed.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

ERROR IN DATA CALCULATIONS!!

Hi folks,

I won't bore you with the "geeky technicalities" but I apologise for an error which has been spotted by our good friend Kor.  The good news is, it only affects results from Bahrain, as data cells configured on players sheets, hadn't propagated correctly after Round #1 in Melbourne.  Even with this error being carried throughout everyone's player sheet, it's a bit of a lucky fluke that it only really affects 2 players sheets directly and 1 player sheet indirectly.  In short, Sarkis, Senna74 and Tedfan are the Player Sheets which required formulas/scripts to be corrected from Round 2 calculations onwards.

Of course, this will affect the Leaderboard to some degree, but I am now confident that I have solved the issue and "hopefully" all will be 100% accurate from here on in.

Again, thanks to Kor for spotting the issue and I can only apologise for the incorrect update from this past weekend.

I will have the "fixed" Leaderboard in place within a couple of hours! (to the best of my knowledge, no other area of the website is affected).

Best Regards,
Cal :)
