Davidson set for driver role at Super Aguri
By Phil Huff - July 25 2006

With the removal of the Friday Test Driver from Formula One next year, Honda Racing F1's Anthony Davidson is set to move up to a full racing seat, with Honda-powered outfit Super Aguri F1.
Davidson's contract with Honda Racing F1 ends this year and, while the team are keen to renew it, they won't stand in the way of the British driver moving to a full time racing berth.

With Super Aguri keen to run a modified Honda RA106 chassis in next years championship, Davidson will be a valuable asset, bringing tens of thousands of kilometres of experience with him. Teaming up with Takuma Sato for a second time, the Japanese squad will be able to draw on a vast wealth of knowledge, hopefully propelling the team up the grid.

Super Aguri's Managing director, Daniele Audetto, has previously supported Davidson staying with Honda, saying "it is better for Anthony to carry on with his role developing the Honda F1 car," before adding "that may change when we have our new chassis."

Honda Racing F1's team chief, Nick Fry, is fully aware of Davidson's options, but wanted him to remain at the Brackley team while Super Aguri concentrated on simply setting up an F1 team. "If he's given the opportunity the following year, once Aguri has had the chance to get up to speed," commented Fry, "then I think that will be great for him."

Gil de Ferran, Honda Racing F1's Sporting Director, when talking of Davidson, added "I'm sure that eventually he will get to race somewhere."
