R.I.P. Ted, you put your money on the line and brought us good cheer & racing with your underdog Toleman F1 team in the 1980s.
You helped launch quite a few drivers into F1 and I'm sure they all salute you as do I.

R.I.P., Ted. You will be missed.

When we ask about where new drivers are going to find seats, I think of how many future greats started at teams like Tolman, Hesketh, Minardi and the like. F1 was also much more fun with the garagistes in the mix.

Ironically it was winning the Formula 2 championship that gave Toleman the idea and leg up to try his luck in F1.

I say ironically as in last few days we have learnt that the highly successful Prema Formula 2 stalwarts have had to look over the pond to Indy cars to get higher up the motorsport ladder.

Now with liberty closed shop there's almost no chance of F2 teams having a go in F1, even if they've supplied almost all the next generation of drivers to the F1 grid.

I wonder who the last F1 friver was that came from a family without money. I'd say Lewis  and Fisichella is all I can remember

Surprisingly perhaps there are at least three other real non silver spoon drivers currently in F1:- Alonso, Bottas & Ocon. All of these came from families of very modest or working class means.

Piastri had a similar start to Hamilton with his father taking mechanic duties in his early Karting career, although there was enough money for Oscar to be privately educated.
Similarly Russell had parents of somewhat limited means, certainly not Stroll, Latifi or Norris deep pockets, his siblings were also involved in motor racing.
Perez family too were of modest means and his big backer, Hamilton McLaren/Mercedes style, was from Carlos Slim's Telmex racing team.
Tsunoda owes his single seater car career to Honda's Formula Dream project, it obviously required a good karting record. One presumes the family funded his Karting, at first at least.

Think even more surprisingly Max can be considered somewhat similar to Lewis, Sure his father was in F1 but it seems Jos' constant tutoring, connections and Max's blinding talent got him into karts & cars without big bucks needed. Jos probably spent most of any F1 wages he earned on partying rather than family development.  :D

 :good: :good: :good: :good:

Liberty has been looking for more events to fill the weekend, why hot throw the entry wide open. Let anyone who shows up with a legal car run in a qualifying race on Friday or Saturday. To fill up the field at least at first have the bottom 5 teams in the WCC points run. 10 best finishers entered in qualifyiing for the GP.

Wow that's certainly controversial Lonny, I like it though.  :good: :good: :good:

It would make Friday interesting!
