General F1 Discussion / Re: Russel to Merc and Bottas to Alfa

I hope Kimi stays, but I doubt that will happen.

Sauber trying to sign 6 drivers to 2 seats (and 3 of them turning up in Australia 2015) was pretty surprising ;)

Remember, Alfa Romeo F1 is Sauber! I wonder.....  ;)

Pit Pass / Have Merc found legal F1 PU trick to help increase power on corner exits?
« Last post by John S on September 01, 2021, 01:24:38 PM »
Red Bull & Ferrari seem to think there's something suspicious going on with Merc's Plenum cooling.

- Yeah I know what the hell is the Plenum???? Apparently it's a pressurised chamber providing air ahead of fuel inlet and cylinders, in a normal road car it's typically an airbox. The colder you can make the air the bigger bang for your buck so to speak.

As to whether Merc's system is legal  :DntKnw: - the FIA are not biting at the moment......... and maybe they never will.

https://www.planetf1.com/news/red-bull-mercedes-power-unit-trick/

N.B also read a long comment by Steve Halsall lower down planetf1 web page  for explanation of F1 Regs and how Merc's trick may well be legal as they measure average lap temps not spot temps. Addendum (You'll need to alter the comments sort button to Best as there's now a big number of comments on this topic)

Could this be another flexy wing problem, they may meet the test as it stands, but will test parameter be tightened?
If so will their be other collateral damage for other OEMs?

Pretty sure Merc have chosen George to cover off Lewis walking away after next year if their car is not in the front running group.
Why would a 7 times champ want to hang around in a 2nd class car? - might not even see the season out.

They'll have Russell well integrated into the team by the end of next year and will have the insurance of one fast driver for the next couple of years.

In an alternative universe they leave George at Williams and then somehow the Grove team surprises the field and win races, :yahoo: he may not want a change of seats when Toto comes calling.  :D

Japan is like Australia and New Zealand - they thought they could keep COVID out rather than vaccinate against it. I'm not sure why there are so many negative comments about China. By business has three factories in China (in three different regions). When COVID first hit, the Government closed the borders and told the people to stay at home and they stayed at home. This didn't need police enforcement and certainly not army enforcement. The Government then arranged a fantastic plan of Vaccination which everyone accepted. When new cases reduced, the Government allowed locals to travel internally and everyone got back to work. In a Country of 1.2 billion people they have hardly any new cases. Of course China is not as free as the west but I have not met anyone during my 30years of travelling in China that feels oppressed. They follow rules because they are brought up to respect authority.

I hadn't realised that the medical helicopter couldn't fly. If that was the case the cars should never have been let out on the track!!

Other than that ...... Nigel for FIA President!  :D :good:

If the Heli can't fly, there is no way to race. As far as Nigel is concerned they should have raced. He makes 2 interesting points: Parc Ferme rules prevent teams from making proper adjustments for the conditions; drivers feel safe enough to take extra risks. They don't respect the track or the conditions.

I was there in 2004 when the Saturday was wiped out not due to rain but the low cloud in the valley's stopped the medical helicopters from flying.

Sorry to say, I think Kimi hasnít found this season much fun, and he has always said thatís when heíll leave.  I couldnít care a less about where Bottas goes and I donít think Russell is the best pick for Merc (just curious, is Toto his manager as well?  Something stinks).

GR is under the Mercedes wing so yes you are right on that front. Mercedes have to prepare for the departure of LH and VB is not that driver whereas GR could very well be but how confident Merc are will be shown by the length of his contract if he gets one. I think any other potential prospects are already tied up in contracts so limited options. As for Kimi Scott has hit the nail on the head he does not seem to be a happy boy to the point probably cannot wait for the season to be over which when you saw him sitting alone waiting for something to happen on Sunday.

Just to make things worse, apparently the medical helicopter couldn't fly on the Sunday. With traffic jams outside the track even before the first attempt to run the race, this meant there was no effective medical cover. In other words, there really wasn't ever a slot on run Sunday's race within the regulations.
