Hamilton's bad start was partly to blame for
the accident. Saying Kimi did it on purpose was
childish. If on purpose he'd have made sure LH coldn't continue

Mercedes does sound like they're feeling entitled. Start better and you don't have to worry about this. Replace Bottas with Stroll if you're worried about the first corner.
I didn't appreciate Hamilton spending the first lap complaining about the car, to cover his ass in case he didn't make it through the field. Way to support the team there, blaming them when they'd built you a car that can withstand a bump and then pass 18 of the fastest cars in all of motorsports.
-
and even after he'd calmed down a bit he carried on the accusations in the post-race press conference.
I thought Seb handled it very well.....and called it "quite silly" which is, I think, as much of a response as it deserves.
-
Mercedes should have known better. It was obvious that Kimi missed his braking point. He would still have missed his braking point whether it was Hamilton, Vettel or a groundhog in the path.
-
Lewis calmed down some later, and took to Instagram to describe his actions quite well, IMO:
“It was a racing incident and nothing more. Sometimes we say dumb s**t and we learn from it.

In answer to the topic title ... Yes!
On another slant, JV opens his trap and stirs the pot once again ... https://www.planetf1.com/news/jv-hitting-bottas-would-have-only-cost-kimi-5s/
But ... does he have a bit of a point (or 5) this time around??
Best Regards,
Cal :)

Point of order:- I've never seen groundhogs at Silverstone Alia, but then I've never jogged the circuit in a mini marathon. :D
Good point well made though about Kimi's late left foot. :good:

For once JV makes sense

I think the loud braying Mercedes did about the leniency of Vettel's penalty probably caused Kimi to get a bigger one. The noise they made about Kimi deliberately hitting Lewis will probably make them look extra close at any further contact between Ferrari and Mercedes. American athletes use this technique regularly. If a ref or umpire makes a close call early in a game, you challenge it and complain loudly to plant a little seed of doubt so that the next call might go your way instead.
-
The question is, if the contact was made in the identical manor - only with two other teams/drivers, would it have been deemed "a racing incident" by the race stewards, especially as they keep reminding us that 1st lap incidents (particularly the first 10-20 seconds after the green light) are given extra consideration???

Cal :)

Only problem is Kimi didn't hit Ham on purpose. If Ham would
have hit Kimi nothing would have happened

I wouldn't try wearing that in Woodcote A grandstand Robem64, from what I hear from a friend they cheered ecstatically to a man/lady when Lewis stuffed Seb for Pole. |-(

No worries, John. The next race is in Germany. ;)
