Title: Allan McNish crash at 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours
Post by: Canada Darrell™ on June 11, 2011, 07:28:30 PM
Watch closely. Nobody was seriously injured. Look at the debris sprayed into the people behind the barrier and particularly the tire that goes flying. There's about a dozen pairs of pants that need to be washed after this!!!!  :o :o :o :o
There is a dude dressed in blue at the bottom the screen who came so close to instant death from that tire along with another guy carrying a camera.

I am amazed at how safe top level motorsports are.

I started watching F1 in 1996, and there have been serious accidents, but I don't believe their have been any deaths, and few 'career ending' accidents.

Wow that was a big accident. Good news is Allan McNish is OK, and back in the paddock.

That's why they make you sign those big "at your own risk" disclaimer forms when you get your photographer's credentials.

It looks like McNish's bad luck at Le Mans continues. Glad's he's OK. The safety of the modern racing car is truly amazing!

Two Audi's out now after another huge accident involving Rockenfella in the Audi and a AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia driven by Robert Kauffman.

At 22:50 hrs the #1Audi was driving at full speed down the fast stretch leading upto Indianapolis.
He caught up a slower #71 AF Corse Ferrari 458 which moved fractionally into the path of the Audi. They touched and the Audi snapped left and hit the Armco head on and then veered over to the right hitting the Armco on the right incredibly hard. Rockenfeller extricated himself from the car and climbed over the barriers.

Those people are sooo lucky his car bounced back off the barrier, would have been so different if it had gone over it.

Rockenfeller crash looked as bad or worse than McNish's. He climbd out an walked away. 1 hour 10 minutes later and S/C is still out. It did massive damage to the Armco.

Video of Mike Rockenfella's crash. Another testament to motor sport safety.

The "Safety Cell" method of car construction works really well for driver protection. Audi has obviously done a great job on the R18. The photographer that was nearly hit by the tire is a woman according to SPEED, and had no idea the tire was coming at her.

That was Peter Dumbreck at Le Mans in 1999. Mark Webber's CLR had flipped there on the approach to Indianapolis corner during practice a few days earlier.
