Title: F1 Viewing Menu ...
Post by: Calman on April 14, 2019, 03:46:59 AM
So, I'm sat here pondering what to eat tomorrow afternoon, during the GP!!

A light lunch of some sort, followed by a few nibbles leading up to the green light, then, as a tradition of mine, I crack a tall can of Bitburger as my first brew of the day, followed by a couple or three local beers/ales and not forgetting, a couple of family sized packet of crisps (Usually something like Jalapeno or Sea Salt & Pepper Kettle Crisps and if I empty those - on an action packed race day - I tear open a bag of Tomato Ketchup crisps.

What is your race ritual?? ... or are you more random/spontaneous than I am?  :DD

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Wow!! Calman that's a lot of food to eat first thing in the morning  :o
For me, I will just settle for my cuppa supplied by my lovely hubby Ben  :D

I typically deal with things around the house, then settle into watching the race mid to late afternoon (depending on time difference, 1 or 2 can be early evening).

So, no Spanish Omelette on your F1 Menu eh?

Best Regards,

The local time on your profile suggests you are having all that for your breakfast.

No Spanish omelette for me, or any other omelette, I can't stand egg

I watch at my parents' house, so it depends on what time the highlights are on. If it's around mealtime, we all eat Mum's cooking (nobody including Mum ever knows what that will be before the day). It is common for us to eat a packet of crisps at some point, and if it's mid-afternoon, like today's race, nobody is surprised to see a packet of malted milk or dark chocolate digestives on the table either. (Especially today - we watched it back-to-back with a Formula E replay, and the race ended with us enjoying lasagne together and ruing Felipe Massa's bad luck).

Did I read that right??? ... a packet of crisps at some point?? .... bad me, I killed two LARGE packets of crisps, one Grilled Onion & Pepper and one Jalapeno Kettle Crisps.  I mean c'mon, it's 3½ hours coverage after all!!!  :-[

I'm surprised I have not read one comment including a Bombay Bad Boy Pot Noodle, it's just NOT RIGHT!!!

Best Regards,
Cal :)

I'm in Western Canada (GMT -8) ... so I was heading to bed, when you Brits in Blighty were frying up your Bacon Butties for the pre-show.  I'll get ya next time (or whenever you are heading to bed and "We" are in party mode).

Best Regards,
Cal :)

For what it's worth, I watched yesterday's grand prix whilst eating bacon and a fried egg.  Had to be done, not only was it a Sunday, I also had to go to work afterwards.

That's a crime of titanic proportions Luke!!!

Can you not get on the blower and say "Folks, it's Luke!! ... I've been eating Bacon and Eggs, while watching Formula 1" .... >>> "Oh, I see, okay, no problem Luke, we will see you on Tuesday morning, take it easy and get some well earned rest!!".

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Watched the F1 race sat in bed with a hot-cross bun and a nice cup of tea; showered and dressed then a quick fast forward through the Indy qualifying, then World Superbikes with some of last night's left-over snacks. A quick blast up the road in the TVR for full Sunday lunch then back home for the rest of the Superbikes and fast forward though Fomula-E with a beer and a ham & branston pickle roll. I did notice a strange noise from time to time; I think it was my wife's eyes rolling.

Was up just before six, bathroom business first, then a quick shower, rags on, kettle on, tv on sky1 then the important bit, coffee and a smoke and then the race. Wife was at work, son was down his girlfriends so saw the race in perfect peace.

Hold on a ruddy minute Ian, you've always sworn off Sky's coverage of F1,
 - now you're watching it.  :o  :swoon:

Have to admit for this race it was Jim Jams, bathrobe and slippers, downstairs to stick the Now tv coverage on at 6.30ish then got some toast, honey and two coffees lined up for the start.

I wasn't home to watch it live so I watched an on-demand replay on ESPN Sunday afternoon. I had my usual Little Debbie's (this week it was Chocolate Chip Cream Pies), a large bag of Conn's potato chips (potato chip flavored) and about half a gallon of diet Big K Citrus Drop (store brand Mt. Dew).

"Packet of crisps" is of variable size and number depending on the following factors:

1) How carefully Mum is watching us (we eat more when she is asleep or sorting out the farm animals - she's a fan, but the sort of fan that keeps up surprisingly well even when multi-tasking these actions that are not normally associated with avid TV viewing).

1b) Whether Mum decides she will help us eat any of the food (she oftens has some biscuits with her drinks, and occasionally will have some crisps, but usually she either doesn't eat or makes herself some toast instead - assuming it's not meal time) or if she decides she'd rather help us by cooking some food instead (one race last year - I think it was the Japanese Grand Prix - she surprised us by making mid-morning sardine sandwiches. These were thoroughly appreciated, especially by me because I needed cheering up during a tough race for my favourites).

2) How many biscuits we've eaten. Sometimes we overdo it an eat an entire pack of biscuits plus multiple packets of crisps before the race has started (yesterday, it was a pack of biscuits but only one packet of crisps).

4) Whether we got a full meal, a mini-meal or no meal at all (F1 races are at wildly varying times due to happening on a globe) is part of the schedule. (This time it was no meal at all during the F1 - though we did get dinner towards the end of the Formula E race, which we watched on delay right after the F1 highlights).

5) What size packets of crisps we have. (Yesterday, for example, Dad and I ate a large bag of cheese-and-onion crisps between the two of us).

Also, I consider myself an athlete (a slow one, but I simply can't eat as much as I did in my teens without having problems when training the next day) and Dad is technically on a diet (Grand Prix day is always "cheat day", but there are limits because he feels better if he puts some limits on how extravagant his "cheat days" are).

Everyone has different gastronomic tastes and portion sizes. That's part of what makes these threads fun to read :)

PS: Noodles I can understand. Hot noodles I can understand. Pot Noodles? Sorry, I'd rather make myself noodles, spice the up the way I'd prefer and serve them with whatever is calling to me in the fridge. (Though I have to be careful who I share my meal ideas with afterwards - apparently not everyone thinks noodles, spinach, onions and tomato mackerel with dill is a good combination...)
