Title: Lotus, Spyker Link Up
Post by: cosworth151 on May 15, 2008, 02:28:14 PM
European boutique carmakers Spyker and Lotus are formalizing an agreement to share components, with the Spyker C8 Aileron sports car likely borrowing several significant parts from Lotus's upcoming Eagle coupe.

The deal calls for Lotus to provide suspensions, structural and steering components to Dutch-based Spyker. Lotus is designing and producing the parts, some of which will be used on the Eagle, which is due in 2009.

Additionally, Lotus will provide design and engineering for all of Spyker's future models.

Spyker's C8 Aileron is expected to go into production in August.

The agreement between the companies is long term, Lotus CEO Mike Kimberley said, and doesn't have an expiration date. Lotus has done engineering projects for Spyker for several years, including work on the D8 Peking-to-Paris sport wagon.

Lotus, based in the United Kingdom, is looking to expand its work for other companies. Last year, Lotus worked on 327 projects for 147 other companies around the world.

"We're really expanding globally," Kimberley said.

Spyker is expected to build the C8 Aileron, but Kimberley left open the possibility of Lotus building cars for Spyker down the road. He said Lotus is in talks with four other firms to build cars for them.
