Even more reason to make a trip to a Goodwood event next year.

Thanks to PlanetF1.com you can find out for yourself how Lando, or others, can beat Max to the title this year. Have fun choosing results when you click thru on link below.

Nearly as much fun as GG, but without the reckoning when Dare tots up the scores.  :D

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article/bearman-to-replace-banned-magnussen-at-haas-for-azerbaijan-grand.AkCoDVRDHBHPpNdlyqMzv

Oliver Bearman, currently 15th place* in the 2024 Driver's Championship, future driver for Haas F1, will sub for Kevin Magnussen for the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

I feel like this is a move that surprises nobody.  He's going to race for Haas next year, why not use him this year?  Gives Bearman and the team a chance to become better acquainted in a low stakes situation.

If Bearman puts up a truly impressive result (say, a podium?) would Haas then have to consider replacing K-Mag for the rest of 2024?

(Not that I'm expecting such a result, and I figure from a contracts point of view, K-Mag would be safe for the rest of the year.  Wrapping up the Mazepin saga a few weeks ago, I doubt Haas wants to open another mess)

*Actually tied with K-Mag on 6 points, but ahead on countback

Fancy me a real Crypto currency sceptic posting this.  :swoon:

In fairness I don't understand properly how Crypto works, but it seems there are more benefits than simply sucking money in & prices rising & falling in staggering percentages.

My big fear has always been putting actual cash from a bank account in and never really knowing how you'll get it out again, especially if it's massively increased in value.

However it seems there are big side benefits from Crypto and Blockchain, some F1 teams, fans - and governments too - are already benefitting.

Not sure if I'll be interacting with the fan schemes, just call me an old cynic.  :D

Will Buxton gave an impassioned speech in the post race show that McLaren is making a terrible mistake by not having Piastri give points to Norris in his fight for the WDC.

I disagree with Buxton.  He's correct to say that Norris won't win the championship without the full support of McLaren.  However, I don't think that acknowledges what McLaren gives up.  A tradition of letter their drivers put their best foot forward.  A tradition of working together on a race to race basis.  F1 teams operate on a culture, and if you ask half your team to lose on purpose, that can get into the culture.

I also feel that if Piastri 'gives' Norris points, there is a very real chance that the championship would seem tarnished.  Even in the days where Michael Schumacher's teammates were known across the sport as 'rear gunners' who would actively give up points to Schumacher, Michael had the good grace to be embarrassed about it.  Norris feeling entitled to those points would feel sour to me.

Heroes:

LeClerc.  A win at his home race, and  a win at his team's home race.  I'm sure he'd rather win the championship, but this is a very good consolation prize. LeClerc put in a stellar race, Ferrari's strategists made a big gamble and won.

Piastri.  A solid race, and it's hard to predict Ferrari pulling a win with great strategy, so I'd say Piastri and McLaren ran a perfect race.  Even in retrospect, if they'd known LeClerc's strategy would work, I'm not sure if Piastri could have held onto a single stop win.

Norris.  He's a great racer, but still needs to figure out how to lead from pole.  It's crazy he's getting results this good when he's got a lot to learn!

Mercedes.  Solid points finish as the third best team.

Albon.  Points in this Williams is always heroic!

Colapinto.  Out of the points, but a solid 12th.  Sure, one could argue the Williams excels at Monza, but I feel like he put in enough to show he's at least as good as Sargent.  (I do feel bad for Sargent, but he seems to understand he just didn't belong in F1)

Pirelli.  The tire supplier is doing a great job of providing rubber that gives a variety of winning strategies.  For all the grief they've taken for 'bad' tires in the past, they deserve a thumbs up for providing the racing we're seeing.

Zeroes

K-Mag and Ricciardo getting too close to their competitors.  It's been a while since anyone made some boneheaded move, so I suppose we were due.

Lance Stroll.  Last of the finishers, swapped to softs and still didn't get the fastest lap?  (I do wonder if this was an effort to make sure that a 'Mercedes Team' got the point and not Ferrari or RBPT, and he backed off when McLaren had the fast lap.  But that means Lance Stroll backed off to help someone else)

Sounds like fun to have a race between rookies at the end of the season, but will it really benefit the aspiring youngsters as Stephano reckons, or is it really more about monetising TV coverage for Liberty?

Sure it will give young guns an outing in race conditions, but will a field of 10 and the big machinery differences lead to any real conclusions over talent.

I also imagine it will become a money earner for back marker teams who are likely to sell the seat to the highest bidder rather than seriously be looking for their next driver.

Whatever the reasons as a viewing fan I'm hoping it happens, can't wait to watch.  :D

P.S. Liberty had to black ball wild card entry scheme, because of Andretti kerfuffle they can't admit that grid can be more than 20 runners safely.  :DD
