Title: Does Car Colour Reflect Personality and Car Insurance Prices?
Post by: davewilson on February 16, 2007, 05:40:12 PM
Is it really true that people with red cars get more speeding tickets than those with green cars? Do insurance companies really determine your premiums based upon the colour of your car? Are the chances of an accident really increased by certain colours? Does the color of your car indicate something about your personality?

Are Red Cars Faster?
Colormatters.com suggests that there may be some truth to the urban legends surrounding car color and speeding tickets… at least anecdotally.

Visitors to that site report that when driving red cars, they seem to get more speeding tickets. Although there seems to be no official statistics, stories like these tend reinforce the urban legend.

If you don't speed, you won't get a speeding ticket, so driving the speed limit is a good idea no matter what colour car you drive.

Colour and Personality
In the United Kingdom, research suggested that the colour of your car says something about your personality type. And accordingly, based on your personality type, your likeliness to be involved in an accident (in the U.K. at least). That research showed that black cars are twice as likely to be involved in crashes as cream-color cars. Whether this is true in the United States is unclear.

Just for fun, here is what the research implied about certain car colors (listed in order of most dangerous to least)1.

10..Black cars .. denote an aggressive personality or someone who's an outsider or rebel.
9..Silver cars.. indicate someone who's cool, calm and slightly aloof.
8..Green cars.. can often be chosen by people with hysterical tendencies.
7..Yellow cars.. signify someone who is idealistic and novelty loving.
6..Blue cars ..are chosen by the more introspective, reflective and cautious driver.
5..Grey cars.. represent those who are calm, sober and dedicated to their work.
4..Red cars.. denote those who are full of zest, energy and drive and who think, move and talk quickly.
3..Pink cars.. are chosen by gentle, loving and affectionate drivers.
2..White cars.. represent status-seeking extrovert drivers.
1..Cream cars.. are the least likely to be involved in accidents and denote self-contained and controlled owners.

To find out what colour you really are take the test at:

I turned out to be blue, skip the advert at the end of the questions to reveal your colour:

If anyone gets pink let me know...

Brown?   We will have to consult with the Wizard on this one.See what other members get before we rush into a conclusion. But it sounds to me that you  just might be a one off.

I don't know about a one off.

If you drive a brown car, that makes you a number two, doesn't it?  :P

I am the contract manager for a mine 200km's west of my city, (the service manager and I both look after a mine each, hence we get called contract manager internally in my company) I go out to do maintenance and general checkups every 2 weeks, with next working day visits for a machine down situation.......so I do a fair amount of driving.......:o

very tired boy   :lazy: at the end of the week.........

Just for today (monday) i did over 240 miles
and wendesday i will cover close to (or maybe over) 315 miles

romephius: you do a lot of driving in your job,I would not like to drive 315 miles in a day here, with roadworks everywhere you go.It took me a good half hour just to get to a motorway last week.

Black and white - the type person who carries a badge.

I do a bit of driving in my work, too. I left my office in Ohio at lunchtime today and punched the trip odometer. I'm now in Colman, Alabama and the trip odometer reads 556.3. Tomorrow I'm pushing on to Gonzolas, Louisiana.

I picked up this van at our warehouse 4th of July week-end '05. It had 34 miles on it. It's now over 141,000, and they're all mine. I really love to drive! :yahoo:
