Title: Williams want VW power
Post by: Scott on March 20, 2010, 09:13:51 AM
As much as I want VW in F1, I think it's a bit early for Williams to judge the Cosworth.

I'd be keen on a new engine supplier.  The rules are that the Cosworth won't change, and Williams knows exactly what to expect from them.

A new engine supplier is the only way to get a new engine design.  (I assume the current Cosworth design is the same one that Williams ran with previously?)

When Williams has the Toy lump, they had an excuse for being an also-ran. The engine was junk. With the Cosworth, the blame is all on Frank & Co.

Spoken like a true Cosworth fan  ;)

I think it is too early to judge if the Cos is a genuinely competitive engine, but I am not sure Frank was in it for the long haul with them.  I had feelings it could be a stop-gap arrangement like last time we went with Cosworth.

As for VW, I would love it, but I am sure there would be many, many strings attached.

Well VW can definitely make an efficient engine which might be useful in this era of no refueling. My VW averages between 47 and 52mpg which is fantastic for a 1600kg car, and great for a tight ass Irish man.  :D

I don't think he's necessarily giving up on
Cosworth as he wants the extra money VW
could bring to make him competitive again.

It must be hard on Frank to have his become
a mid grid team.

He must be used to it by now with so many years in the mid pack. ;) :D :DD

I agree, Frank is looking for more than an engine supplier. Money and technical assistance ae certainly on his mind.

Should have,could have,would have thought

Toyota should have dumped their team and
turned all their money and techinal assistance
to Frank. He might have pulled a Brawn

To be honest in hindsight I am glad Toyota didn't bother doing that, if it meant hanging on to a driver like Nakajima and using Toyota 'power'.  It was a shame things worked out so badly with BMW, especially since they found out how hard it is to run a full team.
