Title: 2010 Australian Grand Prix
Post by: aazz on March 26, 2010, 10:16:26 AM
G'day everyone,

I am in Melbourne for the Grand Prix, sorry there will be no photos until Tuesday because the internet at the motel is slow and prone to drop outs, I was lucky to get my picks in.

Not much to report. Paul Di Resta is driving the first session on Friday at every gp, Sutil today and Liuzzi in Malaysia and vice versa for the year. Schumacher says Merc can't win yet and that is about it. All of the drivers and the atmosphere seem to be a little subdued compared to other years or maybe it's just me.

By the way, the commentators at the track which includes Peter Windsor (he doesn't seem to be mentioning USF1), have said the Australian Bureau Of Meterology have stated that there is a good chance of rain in the afternoon/evening on Sunday. You can look at my race picks to see if I think it will rain or not but don't blame me if it's wrong! :tease: :P

Some photos, sorry about the bluriness, I was shooting through the fence. There is a mixture of practice, qualifying and race photos. This is Senna breaking down in practice 3.

All in all it was a pretty good weekend, the rain made it even more interesting. Also in my opinion the Virgin car is the best looking car on the grid, it doesn't look like it on the tv but in the flesh it really stands out. And i'm glad i finally got to see Schumacher in real life. Shame about Webber though. Till next year.

I don't think that is JB, I think it is the guy from V8 who he swapped with as that looks like a 2008 car with grooved tyres.

G'day JohnS,

The driver in the McLaren is Gary Paffet. On each day of the weekend they have the Ultimate Speed Comparison. The last few years it was a BMW Sauber in it, but this year they had the 2008 McLaren with Paffet, a Holden V8 Supercar driven by a different person each day (one of which was Jamie Whincup who did drive the McLaren) and a Merc road car driven by Mick Doohan. The road car started first and about 25 seconds later the V8 would go and about 55 seconds after the road car started the F1 car would leave with the idea being they would all cross the finish line at the same time. It was amazing to see the road car on the start/finish straight and the F1 car a couple of corners behind and Paffet just blow by both of the other cars like they weren't even moving, each day they finished within a second or two of each other.

G'day Cos,

This is the fourth time I have been to the Australian GP (07, 08, 09, 10). I have also been to Canada in 07 and Singapore last year.

Thanks for the info aazz, sounds a really great idea to keep all the fans amused, perhaps they should try it at a few European GPs.
