Title: Chat room - Help!
Post by: Alianora La Canta on March 09, 2008, 12:14:17 AM
I can see dare and ian in the chat room, but I can't join them because when I click on "Chat room", I just get a blank window - nothing attempts to load...

also if your like me and your modem hasnt been turned off since the last millenium, that causes probs as well and needs switching on and off to reboot it.

I've tried rebooting (in fact, I was so short on time last night that I switched off the PC, along with the computer that acts as my internet server (it's not a proper server, though) and then turned them on again this afternoon). I can't find the modem in the tangle of cables that constitutes the back of the server, so I don't even know if the modem we have can be switched off (I know the last one we had didn't have any switches at all, but my dad changed modems when he went up to broadband). The chat room still doesn't work, and still has the same problem.

unscrew the cable leading to your modem
and after a while screw it back in.

Have you made any changes since you
last used the chat room?It worked fine
for Ian,Neil,Rom and me last night

When I find the modem, I'll try that.

I haven't made any changes since I last used the chat room (that I know about). I could see it worked well for you - hope you enjoyed the chat you had :)

Are you still running 2 OS?Could that
be your problem?

Actually Ali, the chat room is an Adobe Flash reliant page, if your flash has developed any problems you may need to un-install flash then goto www.adobe.com and download the latest version of flash.

Good Luck Ali

Hope you get it sorted Ali, I'm not going to suggest nothing, 'cos I know nothing about these infernal machines.  :DntKnw:

I know about as much as Ian so the only thing I would suggest is to try a chat room on another site so that you can find out whether it is a generic problem or whether it is specific to our chat room.

Ali, try looking at a site that has Flash playing somewhere like this http://www.thefwa.com.

Can you view this OK?

I can, Wiz. It's just the chat room here that doesn't load...

I am using Firefox, and Internet Explorer isn't reliable enough to make the experiment worthwhile. However, I've just found out that it works in Opera.
