Title: Preston Henn Dies.
Post by: lkjohnson1950 on May 02, 2017, 10:41:50 PM
Preston Henn who owned the Swap Shop drive ins and flea markets in Florida has passed away. He was a long time IMSA owner/driver. His 935 won at Daytona and one of his 962s placed 2ND at Le Mans. What I remember is him offering AJ Foyt a stint in his 962 at Daytona after AJ's original entry dropped out. Bob Wollek, a highly respected  Porsche driver, had a cow and went on TV to complain that AJ was sure to crash a car he had no experience in. Within a few laps AJ was matching Wollek's best times, in the dark, in the rain. Gave me a whole new perspective and respect for the talented Mr Foyt.

That was a great time for sports car racing. IMSA was thriving, and the Group C cars were incredible. The Swap Shop cars were usually up toward the front of the field.

I remember when Wollek went off the deep end over being paired with A.J. All I could think was that A.J. had won LeMans, "Monsieur Porsche" Wollek hadn't.

Here's a picture of the Porsche 935 with Mr. Henn standing by the rear wing.

R.I.P., Mr Henn.
