Title: Germanys Loss, Others Gains?
Post by: Robem64 on March 14, 2018, 08:33:18 PM
Could Germany get dropped if Hanoi and Miami are being lined up?

Unless I've suffered a severe bump on the head, I can't remember a decade where so many race venues were in such a "fragile" state.  Montreal was touch and go, Germany couldn't host in previous years (then the argument with Nurb via Hock) ... then they finally return to the Calendar, only to announce being in dire straits after the 2018 season.    We also see Malaysia drop out and France return, rumours of Spa/Monza being at risk and a few others in a delicate state, including Silverstone's issues in recent years.

Oh well, let's hope we have a strong 2018 season and other teams taking the fight to Mercedes!!!

All the best,
Cal :)

Bernie has made it virtually impossible for a venue to break even, much less turn a profit. Why would even a classic track keep losing money year after year? Bernie thought he had an unending supply of suckers lined up and didn't give a damn about classic tracks as long as he got his cash. Unless Liberty makes some changes I think you will see a large turnover in tracks over the next few years. I foresee the loss of Germany, Italy, Belgium, UK, US and Brazil.

Liberty's stated goal is to have "destination races," not good races. After all, the glitterati just show up to be seen, not to be bothered with a bunch of funny looking cars.

Liberty Media, like Bernie, just want to milk every last dime out of the sport.

If Hockenheim no longer wishes to host it alone, the German GP will stop happening, regardless of whether there's anything to replace it.

F1 is 4 tracks short of its desired 25, so I don't think the intended races will cause any circuits to be dropped. I'd go so far as to say the new race at Paul Ricard is a bigger threat to Hockenheim's continued presence on the calendar than Hanoi and Miami combined, since the people who'd consider either of the latter races would probably never consider Hockenheim and vice versa.
