Title: Jackie Stewart's Scrapbook
Post by: cosworth151 on June 30, 2010, 01:31:38 PM
Oh, to have an extra $500!

I just received an e-mail about this from Paul at The Motorsport Collector.

Helen Stewart kept a scrapbook of her husband Jackie's racing career. It is now be reproduced in a limited run of 1500 copies. Paul says each copy will be autographed by Sir Jackie. The price is $499. The price in the UK us £295.

Stewart recalls how he was saved by his BRM team-mate Graham Hill and Bob Bondurant: "Graham was the first to reach me. I remember he said I was looking 'very second hand'. Then Bob joined him. Bob had turned his car upside down but, apart from dribbling a little blood, he was fine ... They carried me into a barn and put me into the back of a hay truck...

I posted in another thread that we might have the best crop of drivers ever.  They might be demons on the track, but I'm not sure I can picture many men on the grid doing this.

Maybe the Brazillians would look out for each other, especially if they were teammates.  Kobayshi strikes me as humble enough to do that too.

Luckily, thanks to the efforts of Stewart, the drivers don't need to rely on their fellow drivers for safety!

It's somewhat ironic that such an incredible man changed the sport to allow the prima donnas we have now.

Hopefully one day they'll release a budget version for normal people who cannot afford that price.  I have seen cheaper books with replica scraps inside.
