The one of the greatest ever Formula 1 Drivers, in what would have been his 50th Birthday. The one and only "Aryton Senna"............... ( RIP )

I'm pleased to see Senna's memory is still kept alive and with his teriffic record in F1 I'm sure it always will be.

Happy Birthday to Ayrton, I feel I missed so much not seeing him compete in F1.   :(

I am lucky enough to remember Aryton racing, and sadly also seen his terrible fatal accident. I don't think there is much chance of him being forgotten in the near future. RIP one of the greatest of all time.

I wasn't a big Senna fan when he was
racing but with time passed I've come
to see how great he was

I can't say I really saw Senna racing because San Marino 1994 was the first time I saw the start of a race. But even I know he was absolutely phenomenal. Ayrton, thank you for giving millions of people so much enjoyment watching all that sublime skill in action for so many years and for defining late 80s/early 90s F1.

I feel like I am unlucky, because I came to know about formula 1 when ayrton crashed...But since then he is my hero...As the time passed by I started to know a lot about him and felt sad how he left us,the formula one fans so early...
As it is said,a man remains in this for few moments but his legacy remains forever...

Rest in peace master of all the masters, rest in peace...

here is my earlier post of November 2008 about the great man:

i have always been totally fascinated by ayrton SENNA and not just about how could enter an "out-of-body" supreme driving zone almost at will either

he was such a complex fellow with extreme traits at either end of the personality spectrum - sometimes a genius saint and others an ugly smouldering devil

i am quite sure he burned the trail and was the 'model' for the ruthless but superb driving style of michael SCHUMACHER until the excesses he later developed into an art form just had to be squashed by the officials before it really got out of hand

and i have read some reports and articles comparing lewis HAMILTON to MS for some dubious driving tactics too

perhaps ya have to be a bit of a bastard to succeed after all?

I think Lauda & Prost also leaned towards the dark side sometimes as well, so you could well be right with your theory SennaMan.

In those days it was Clutch and manual gearbox. I remember reading that in that race senna had blisters in his right hand due to the frequent gear changes.

Brilliant Video Dare.

this enjoyable video brought back memories of how good ayrton was, how much I love(d) the guy and how much I still miss him

a unique complex man of whom Sir Frank Williams once  said: "....[as great as Ayrton was], he was a better man outside of the cockpit than in it."

R.I.P. Ayrton

thanks so much Chris. Both were great and the one with the song "Deliver Me" was poignant and very moving.

ayrton was a very special man and the videos you have posted do capture his remarkable intensity and charisma. Even people who had no interest in motor racing at all were held spellbound by him.

i think we will have to wait a very long time to see anyone near his equal.

Portugal GP win in the rain, thanks Chris for the brilliant vids.

the great ones show even more mastery racing in the wet than mere mortals and ayrton was to do that all over again at a wet European GP at Donnington in 1993.

so sad Donnington looks like it has been consigned to history as a F1 circuit now the latest developments have failed,

Ayrton was also one of my favorites, but different era's and machines always breed a hero, I still think it's down to personal choice.

That's quite a frank response from AS....you race to win, his trademark, but somehow, I see that steely determination from a certain Lewis Hamilton, sorry but just my own thoughts...utter determination, self belief and controlled aggression, well perhaps not so controlled in one or two races in the past", but time is on his side!! :good:

Senna had to climb up the ladder. He did it the hard way. I still remember him in his days at "Toleman", even then he was competitive.

At the risk of being repetitive, I am proud to say that I had the great fortune in 1981 of meeting Ayrton Da Silva as he was then called.

He was in the throws then of moving from Formula Ford where he was totally dominant, into Formula 3, where he was also to dominate.

I joined my friend and Formula Ford racer Don Hardman at a test day at Donnington Park. We left Don's house in Leicester nice and early, in his truck loaded with Formula Ford car and plenty of bits, in readiness for a day's testing.

Donnington was a hive of activity that day, and i had a field day photographing suspension details of the great variety of single seaters present. In Malta my brother David was at the time building his Datus - a Lotus 907 engined hill climb single seater, so any ideas on the latest suspension tweaks would be more than welcome.

The garage next door to ours was taken up with 3 prestine white Formula 3 cars. Eddie Jordan had brought them along to test a couple of up and coming drivers for his F3 team.

During a break Don moved over to the Jordan garage and chatted with various people, including Eddie himself, and a couple of young drivers I didn't recognise. Then he called me to introduce me to this young lad. "This is my friend Ayrton da Silva from Brazil. He's a bugger to beat". I shook hands politely and continued photographing details of the F3 cars.

Little did I realise who I had just been introduced to, but I have never forgotten Don's words.
