Title: The Lily Camera - Amazing Self Flying Drone
Post by: Wizzo on May 14, 2015, 09:49:53 AM
The Lily Camera is a light-weight quad-copter with an HD camera that uses a combination of visual and GPS tracking to keep its target in shot.

Simply strap on the tracking bracelet and enter instructions on the shot you would like - for example leading or side-on - and the drone will follow you for up to 20 minutes, adapting to your pace and shooting in high definition.

Watch this video and you'll want one.

That'll be good for filming you driving through the Swiss Alps this summer Wizzo  ;)

20min battery life and 2hr charge time means I won't be taking it skiing or anything where I have to carry a dead drone around the rest of the day.  They need to have user changeable batteries.

Plus it seems to use digital gimbal (the way the camera tracks you) instead of mechanical, so in reality it is taking a big shot and cropping it down.  That's not very ideal.

They don't recommend using the Lily in wind above 15mph.  I live in a region where the wind is rarely that light.

I can just imagine it flying into the windscreen of an oncoming lorry.  :o

The vid looks great but all the locations have very open spaces so I suspect it can't avoid trees etc. It would be great to have some ariel shots of the car though.  8)

Quite a step up, but double the price as well (Go Pro not included - ouch)...pretty cool though.  Still a 15mph wind limit, and I couldn't find the battery life, although a swappable battery makes a huge difference.

I probably wouldn't seriously look at an autonomous drone for a couple of years until they have the bugs worked out and a decent obstacle avoidance system.  Now I have to find someone with less patience and more money and go watch one of these in action!  ;)
