Title: New 2012 Porsche 911 Unvieled
Post by: cosworth151 on August 24, 2011, 01:52:47 PM
Yesterday was quite a day for car lovers. Both the Ferrari 458 Spyder and the next-gen Porsche 911 were unvieled. The 458 is covered in another post.

The new 911 is larger and sleeker than the previous car. It will be shown at the Frankfort Auto Show.

I've always been a Porsche fan. This looks like a worthy successor to the 911.

Love Porsche, but was never a fan of the 911. Just can get my head round the ridiculous engine layout and the fact they won't admit it was in the wrong place in the first place. Fair play they seem to have engineered their way round it.

I saying that this new model is beautiful to look at and the interior is just wow!

Porsche tried to design a better car, it was called the 928. It had a front-mid-engine, V8 power and was fast, comfortable and luxurious. The Porsche faithful announced that it was not a "True Porsche" and refused to buy it. Since then Porsche has done some astonishing engineering to make the 911 the equal of cars from Ferrari, Aston and other famous sports car manufacturers despite it's inherent flaws. i think the Boxster/Cayman is what they would like to build if the Porschephiles would let them. As it is they have to keep it at a lower level than the 911 to keep the customers happy.

Word is that Porsche will soon release a successor to the 928. It will be a front engine, rear drive V8 GT based on a shortened Panamera platform.

Driving a 911 (or 365) is an acquired taste. I recommend the book Porsche High-Performance Driving Handbook by Vic Elford.

Not really revolutionary, but then why should they.  Timeless.
