Title: We're Jamming
Post by: Wizzo on May 15, 2007, 07:50:40 PM

A new report from the RAC foundation and Trafficmaster reveals the worst roads for jams in the UK

In the number one spot is the southern end of the M1 motorway from Junction 6a to J11, which won’t come as a surprise to anyone unfortunate enough to have to use it. From May 2006 to April 2007 there were 145,641 traffic congestion alerts; the situation exacerbated by the long-term road works on that section.

The M25 did its best to compete however, with second and third place going to J9-J20 and J21-J28 respectively – and that despite the widening of the carriageway past Heathrow.

Fourth and fifth spots fell to the M6: J3a-J11a in the West Midlands and J11-J21a further north. Overall, there was a 0.8% increase in congestion in the first quarter of this year compared with the previous one, with congestion alone costing the UK economy as much as £20bn per year in resources and lost time according to the CBI.
